Meghan Markle is moving on to better, uh, Botswanan pastures with a new Disney documentary following her royal departure.

Meghan Markle is set to narrate one of Disney’s newest wildlife films, Elephant, which will be available to stream on Disney+ beginning April 3rd.

Elephant is a documentary that follows an elephant family on a 1,600-kilometer trip through the Kalahari Desert and will raise funds for the Elephants Without Borders organization.

Elephant will be released during Earth Month, which aims to raise awareness about environmental concerns in the run-up to Earth Day on April 22.

Sure, her presence in the project pays homage to her pre-royal days as an actress, but she actually recorded her voiceover before she and her 35-year-old husband decided to take a break from duty. While living in London last fall, the duchess became interested in the initiative and chose to contribute her income to Elephants Without Borders, a non-profit committed to wildlife conservation via research, education, and information.

“Meghan remains hugely ambitious and is very open-minded to a return to acting which is what she knows, loves and does best,” an alleged insider told The Sun. “Her preference is to explore the route of a documentary in which she is able to follow up some of the causes she is interested in. This wish has been the focus of some of her most recent meetings and will likely shape the kind of work the agent Meghan goes with seeks to get for her. She is very excited about what the future holds.”

Meghan learned about the project’s inception through mutual acquaintances of the documentary’s creators, whom she met during a 2016 trip to Botswana, according to BAZAAR. Mark Linfield and Vanessa Berlowitz, the documentary’s directors, later approached Meghan and asked if she would consider giving the narration for the video based on her past enthusiasm for the subject matter and material. Meghan then went to London in the fall of 2019 to record her narration for the film.

“Two new movies, two unforgettable journeys. Start streaming Disneynature’s Elephant, narrated by Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, and Disneynature’s Dolphin Reef, narrated by Natalie Portman, on April 3, only on #DisneyPlus,” read a tweet from the Disneynature Twitter account on Thursday.

The official description for the film reads, “Elephant follows African elephant Shani and her spirited son Jomo as their herd make an epic journey hundreds of miles across the vast Kalahari Desert. Led by their great matriarch, Gaia, the family faces brutal heat, dwindling resources and persistent predators, as they follow in their ancestor’s footsteps on a quest to reach a lush, green paradise.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have a long history of supporting elephants in the wild. In 2017, the pair flew to Botswana to learn more about Elephants Without Borders and to help with their conservation efforts. Botswana was also where the couple opted to spend their first anniversary as a couple.

The Sun tabloid in the United Kingdom claimed this week that Harry and Meghan had relocated to Los Angeles, where they want to make a permanent residence.
