Meghan Markle delivered her first speech of the royal tour, in which she discussed how crucial it was for her to get a degree, as well as for girls all over the world. She also announced that she paid for her education all on her own.

She started, “As a university graduate, I know the personal feeling of pride and excitement that comes with attending university.”

“From the moment you receive your acceptance letter to the exams you spend countless late nights studying for…the journey of higher education is an incredible, impactful and pivotal one. I am also fully aware of the challenges of being able to afford this level of schooling for many people around the world, myself included.”

Meghan went on to say how important education is, especially for women. She declared that the Association of Commonwealth Universities, of which Queen Elizabeth II is a patron, would give two new grants to Fiji National University and the University of the South Pacific. Female students can benefit from the funds by being able to attend seminars as part of their degree program.

“This means that female faculty members are able to encourage others to follow in their footsteps and enter higher-education, and that more women become part of the decision-making process in academic institutions,” she said.

Meghan earned a bachelor’s degree in 2003 from Northwestern University, with a double major in theatre and international studies. Meghan’s half-brother told the Daily Mail before she married that her father once won the lottery, which helped pay for Meghan’s education.

Meghan, on the other hand, seemed to have a different perspective on the situation.

“It was through scholarships, financial aid programs and work-study where my earnings from a job on campus went directly towards my tuition, that I was able to attend university. And, without question, it was worth every effort,” she concluded.

Meghan’s half-brother told Express.co.uk: “The only thing I want to call her out on is lying on stage when she did that little… I don’t know what country it was but she was talking to a bunch of people telling them how with hard work and discipline and a job you can put yourself through college like I did.

“Now that was just a straight out lie.

“My dad paid every nickel for her college.

“She got two scholarships – I don’t know where for – but she got two Fulbright Scholarships.

“I remember the conversation with my father on the phone, he was very happy and excited because, like I say, he updates me constantly my whole life on what Meghan is doing because that is all he ever talked about his whole life.

“And then he is a little upset because she wants to go to Northwestern, and she didn’t get a scholarship to Northwestern – she got Daddy’s scholarship to Northwestern.

Thomas Markle believes Meghan lied about paying her own way to education, claiming he has “the bank statements to prove it.”

Meghan Markle’s father said in an interview with the Mail on Sunday that earlier comments she made regarding her college expenses were “completely untrue,” and that he didn’t speak out earlier because she was pregnant.

‘I’m sorry but that is completely untrue. I paid every penny of her tuition and I have the bank statements to prove it,” The Mail was informed by Thomas.

She did an internship at the US embassy in Buenos Aires during her junior year, which Thomas said he also paid for.

“I paid for her trips to Spain and England. I paid for her internship in Argentina.”

He continued, “I always upheld my responsibilities as a father. Meghan’s comments about paying her way through college are offensive to me.

“I don’t want anything from Meghan or Harry but I’m not going to shut up until the whole truth is out there. I will continue to contradict anything said about me that isn’t true,” he said.
