Prince Harry and Meghan won’t return as working members of royal family
Buckingham Palace stated Friday that Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, would not return to royal duty, and Harry will relinquish his honorary military titles — a decision that formalizes and finalizes the couple’s divorce from the royal family.
The Palace announced that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be unable to break away from the Royal Family’s activities and “continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service.”
This comes little over a year after they originally said they would “step back” from royal responsibilities and days after they disclosed they were expecting their second child.
“While all are saddened by their decision, The Duke and Duchess remain much loved members of the family,” the statement stated.
According to the palace, Harry’s appointment as captain general of the Royal Marines and other military titles would be returned to the queen before being dispersed to other members of the family.

The announcement follows a year-long review into the couple’s decision to stand down as working royals last year.
According to a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan, they are “committed to their duty and service to the U.K. and around the world, and have offered their continued support to the organizations they have represented regardless of official role.”
“We can all live a life of service,” said the spokesperson. “Service is universal.”
Harry served in the British army for a decade, notably on the front lines in Afghanistan, and maintains a strong relationship with the armed forces. He developed the Invictus Games, a competition for injured servicemen that debuted in 2014 at London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The Invictus Games Foundation announced that Harry will continue to serve as its patron.
Buckingham Palace has not announced who would get the reclaimed titles and associations. These include; The Royal Marines, RAF Honington, Royal Navy Small Ships and Diving, the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, the Rugby Football Union, the Rugby Football League, the Royal National Theatre, and the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
Meghan, 39, will lose her positions as patron of the National Theatre of Great Britain and the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
This concludes a rollercoaster trip for the pair, whose fairytale engagement and wedding rapidly devolved into allegations of a fraternal rift and a media blitz, which Meghan’s supporters claim frequently devolved into racial abuse and bullying.
The couple agreed not to use the term “royal highness” or accept public monies for their activities, but it was uncertain if such agreements would be upheld at the time.
Since then, the duo has struck multimillion-dollar partnerships with Spotify and Netflix.
