Prince Harry and Meghan Lived Off inheritance money After Being Cut Off By The Royal Family
In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle address their exit from the royal family.
In the midst of the couple’s descriptions of their still-fractured relationship with the royal family, Harry also stated that they had been financially cut off after deciding to leave their positions as senior working royals. As a result, he and Meghan had to fend for themselves, he added, relying heavily on a fortune given to him by his mother, Princess Diana, following her death in 1997.
Prince Harry said that their family’s financial assistance stopped in the “the first quarter of 2020,” just months after they announced their intention to stand down from their duties and job as senior royals in January.
Harry told Oprah that they wouldn’t have been able to accomplish it without his mother’s assistance.
“But I’ve got what my mum left me, and without that, we would not have been able to do this,” Harry said, before remarking that Diana’s endowment seemed prophetic, especially in light of her own problems with the British press and the royal family. “Touching back on what you asked about what my mum would think of this, I think she saw it coming,” he added. “I certainly felt her presence throughout this whole process.”

Diana, who died tragically in a vehicle accident in August 1997, left her two boys an inheritance of £12,966,022. After death duties, the sum was reduced to £8,502,330.
Of course, this isn’t expected to be the couple’s sole source of income; they’re also anticipated to profit from lucrative Spotify and Netflix partnerships.
Harry also received a multimillion-dollar royal inheritance from his great-grandmother, the Queen Mother, who left him and Will about £14 million ($19.3 million) to split, with Harry receiving a larger share because he won’t be able to take advantage of the many financial benefits that come with being king. Meghan, on the other hand, is thought to have walked into her royal wedding with around $5 million in her bank account, due to her long-running role on Suits—and continuous residual checks from streaming services—as well as her several pre-royal life side hustles.
The money, as well as shares, cash, jewelry, and other personal belongings, that Prince Harry and Prince William received came from Diana’s divorce settlement with Prince Charles.
