Meghan Markle donates 2,000 copies of her book
Meghan Markle is donating her first children’s book to families all over the United States.
The book was released earlier this month and honors the “special bond between father and son.” It’s dedicated to Prince Harry and the couple’s baby Archie, who Meghan says make her heart go “pump-pump”.
Meghan has reportedly donated roughly 2,000 copies of her debut book The Bench around the United States. Sharing the news on their Archewell Foundation website, they wrote, “The Duchess and Archewell have received the support of the publisher of The Bench to distribute 2,000 copies at no cost to libraries, community centres, schools, and nonprofit programs across the country.
“Those receiving free copies include vital organizations like Assistance League of Los Angeles, which has served the local community for more than 100 years and which The Duke and Duchess visited twice last year to spend time with the children at the organization’s Preschool Learning Centre.
“To make this happen, Archewell is working with the team at First Book, a nonprofit social enterprise that’s distributed more than 200 million books and educational resources to programs and schools serving kids in low-income communities in the United States and Canada.

“Reaching an average of 5 million kids per year, the First Book Network operates in classrooms, afterschool programs, libraries, community programs, military support programs, and more.”
Meghan has also included a poem she wrote for Harry on Father’s Day in the book. “You’ll love him. You’ll listen. You’ll be his supporter. And here in the window, I’ll have tears of great joy, looking out at My Love and our beautiful boy,’ Meghan wrote in The Bench, and she also voiced the audiobook.
The Assistance League® of Los Angeles, which Meghan, 39, and Harry, 36, visited twice last year to spend time with children from their Preschool Learning Center, is one of the charities that will get a copy of the book.
The artwork was done by Christian Robinson, an American illustrator.
Meghan previously said that the book was inspired by a Father’s Day poem she penned following the birth of their 2-year-old son Archie in 2019.
“That poem became this story. Christian layered in beautiful and ethereal watercolour illustrations that capture the warmth, joy, and comfort of the relationship between fathers and sons from all walks of life; this representation was particularly important to me, and Christian and I worked closely to depict this special bond through an inclusive lens.
“My hope is that The Bench resonates with every family, no matter the makeup, as much as it does with mine.”
The books will be distributed around the country by Archewell in collaboration with the organization First Book.
