Kate Winslet Still Haunted By Nude ‘Titanic’ Painting

Kate Winslet became one of Hollywood’s biggest actresses thanks to Titanic, but there’s one relic of the movie that she wishes would disappear without a trace – her nude picture.

Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) creates the picture for Rose, who had requested that he draw her “like one of his French girls,” wearing nothing but the Heart of the Ocean necklace.

Winslet’s fans aren’t going to let her forget it. In fact, over 17 years after that famous moment aired on television, her fans continue to beg her to autograph photographs from it.

A fan brought Winslet a copy of the nude image to sign on the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of “Divergent” last month.

“I don’t sign that (picture),” she told Yahoo! “It feels very uncomfortable. Why would you do that? People ask me to sign that (picture) a lot, and actually there’s a photo of it as well that someone’s lifted from a still of the film.”

“That photo gets passed around. It’s like, ‘No, I didn’t mean for it to be a photograph that I would end up seeing 17 years later.’

“It’s still haunting me. It’s quite funny really,” said the actress, who has a four-month-old baby, Bear, with husband Ned Rocknroll and daughters Mia, 13, and Joe, 10, from prior marriages.

According to ABC News, the original portrait was sold at auction in 2011 for $16,000. While DiCaprio made the moment famous, the Winslet drawing was drawn by filmmaker James Cameron.

Kate has been the youngest person to receive six Oscar nominations since Titanic shattered box-office records, winning Best Actress for The Reader in 2009, as well as two Baftas, two Golden Globes, and an Emmy.

She compares her stratospheric rise to that of her ‘Divergent’ co-stars Shailene Woodley and Theo James, both of whom are expected to achieve great things in the future.

“What Shai and Theo are going through right now is exactly the same as what Kate and Leo were going through. It really is no different.”

“In fact, I think it’s probably harder for them, because of the digital world… It’s just happening much faster for them than it probably did for us.”

She co-stars with Shailene Woodley in Divergent, a cinematic version of Veronica Roth’s sci-fi action-adventure novel in which she portrays the evil Jeanine Matthews, who supervises a futuristic Chicago divided into five parts, with anyone who don’t fit in being labeled “divergents.”

The actress recently confessed that she frequently “vomits” from nervousness before filming difficult sequences.

She said: “I think you get really good at mind-f***ing yourself, to be honest. Acting is bloody scary. I still have moments when I think, ‘I can’t do this – everybody thinks I’m absolutely sh*t.’ There are scenes I absolutely dread – there was a scene in Labor Day; the whole courtroom sequence in The Reader. I often throw up, which I’m a bit embarrassed about. It’s the adrenaline.”

‘Divergent’ will be released in UK theaters on Friday, April 4th, 2014.
