Since becoming famous in Heavenly Creatures about 30 years ago, Kate Winslet has been in a lot of steamy sequences.

But the 45-year-old celebrity has admitted that during her lengthy and prosperous career, she experienced objectification while filming such scenes.

In Francis Lee’s latest movie Ammonite, the Titanic actress plays real-life English paleontologist Mary Anning, who begins a covert lesbian relationship with Charlotte Murchison, who is portrayed by Saoirse Ronan.

Speaking to the Radio Times about the lesbian love scenes in the movie, Kate said: “We weren’t objectified in any way. But that also made me realise that I’ve felt a little objectified in the past.”

The Titanic actress went on to say that they discovered they could explore the  “desire and depth of connection between these two women” by cutting the conversation. She spoke about taking in a lot of knowledge and felt comfortable and equal. “I learned a lot. It felt very equal and very safe; we weren’t objectified in any way,” the actress stated.

Kate further stated, “But that also made me realize that I’ve felt a little objectified in the past without knowing it. It brought up a lot of interesting thoughts.”

Kate has shown a willingness to be completely vulnerable on camera and has garnered praise for her nuanced performances.

She received an Oscar in 2008 for her performance in The Reader as an ex-Nazi prison guard who woos a young child.

Filming was postponed so that Kate’s co-star David Kross, 30, would turn 18 before they collaborated on the s=xual sequences.

She also recreated the famous moment from the 1997 Titanic film with Leonardo DiCaprio in which her character said, “I want you to draw me like one of your French girls,'”  while posing without clothes on a couch.

Winslet recently said she has seen that her love scenes with Ronan, 26, have drawn significantly more attention than any of her other love scenes with men.

She said to Digital Spy: “What I definitely found really striking is that people seem to talk about the love scenes in the film in ways that are much more focused, because it’s two women.”

“And I’m telling you, with my hand on my heart, I have never been asked the same volume of questions about love scenes of a heterosexual nature – of which I have shot many in my life. And so that to me, that to me, that’s a conversation.”

Meanwhile, earlier this month, Kate claimed that creating “Ammonite” had sparked her interest in fossil hunting.

The honored actress said: “I worked with a wonderful paleontologist and he knows every nook and cranny.”

“I did also find a piece of an ichthyosaur’s skull and was able to identify it. I was very proud of myself.”

“It was really exciting. It was almost at the waterline as the tide had gone out – tucked away in a rock pool.”

Despite acquiring a love for fossil collecting, Kate acknowledged that some of the attire she was required to wear was difficult for her.

She stated: “I just know that with all the bending and twisting and heavy lifting on beaches, there’s just no way that Mary wore a corset.”

“We went down this road of putting her in work trousers underneath her dress.”

“We also put her in a chunky jumper that made me so boiling hot. In the end I had it without the sleeves.”
