Kate Winslet Reveals What Makes Love-making Scenes ‘Awkward’

Kate Winslet has spoken out about the need of having intimacy coordinators on site while filming “awkward” se* scenes.

She also talked about morphing into one on the set of Mare Of Easttown, her next HBO comedy.

Winslet stated she could have used such a person on set of some of her early projects during an interview on the How I Found My Voice podcast. “I definitely wish I had them in the past,” she stated emphatically.

“I just could have done with that friend really. Just having a friend to say, ‘Can you ask him just to not put his hands there?’ So it’s not you having to say, which can be pretty awkward.”

Kate took on the position of intimacy coordinator during filming for HBO’s Mare Of Easttown. Since the company didn’t hire one, Kate Winslet revealed she assisted her 20-year-old co-star Angourie Rice during her intimate scene. “Because there were no clothes that come off in the scene they didn’t consider bringing in an intimacy coordinator. And I just got the sense that she was nervous. So I said to her, ‘I’m going to be around for this, I’m going to stay, I won’t leave the set,” the Titanic star explained.

“She said, ‘Thank God Kate, thank you so much’.”

“And I ended up being in the car. I ended up being in the boot of the car. I knew it would make them feel better to have that one person, who would be able to put their hand up and say, ‘Actually we need to cut now. Is everyone feeling OK?'”

Even directors, Kate noted, don’t always feel comfortable discussing intimate situations (even if it’s simply kissing) with the performers.

According to Digital Spy, Kate Winslet previously confessed that she directed the se* scene between herself and her co-star Saoirse Ronan in the film Ammonite. She had previously stated that women understand what other women want and that she and her co-star could ‘unite in their feelings’ regarding their roles. The actress decided that she had had a ‘joyful’ encounter.

Many celebrities have previously revealed that intimacy coordinators help them feel at ease during filming intimate sequences. Rege-Jean Page and Phoebe Dynevor, both of Bridgerton renown, spoke out against it, saying that the coordinators were required for filming intimate moments.
