It catapulted her to prominence, set her en route to become one of her generation’s most admired performers, and even garnered her the first of four Best Actress Oscar nominations. Despite this, Kate Winslet has stated that she is ashamed when she watches Titanic.

Kate Winslet became a household name after acting in the film as Rose DeWitt Bukater, a privileged girl who falls in love with a lad from the third class while she is betrothed to someone else. While she stunned viewers with her performance, she appears to have mixed feelings about her Rose depiction.

“Every single scene, I’m like ‘Really, really? You did it like that?’ Oh my God… Even my American accent, I can’t listen to it. It’s awful,” Winslet said in an interview with The Telegraph. “Hopefully it’s so much better now. It sounds terribly self-indulgent, but actors do tend to be very self-critical. I have a hard time watching any of my performances, but watching Titanic I was just like, ‘Oh God, I want to do that again.’”

Leonardo DiCaprio, according to filmmaker James Cameron, feels the same way. Cameron explains, “I didn’t show him the whole film but I showed him 18 minutes of it a few months ago. It was a good reunion for us but great to watch his reaction. He couldn’t believe it. He said to me, ‘I’m such a young punk. Look at me.’ He was practically crawling under the seat. It was a good moment.”

Although Winslet claims that she can’t bear this moment of her performance, the majority of her admirers disagree. Many folks couldn’t tell she wasn’t from the United States!

Some could argue that she was being too hard on herself. After all, it’s still regarded as one of the most popular and powerful films ever made.

Rose, represented by Kate Winslet, removes her robe in one of Titanic’s most iconic sequences so that her love interest Jack Dawson (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) can sketch her. Despite the fact that the moment has become famous, Winslet recalls being “absolutely nervous” about recording her n-ked scene when filming Titanic.

She claimed that working with fellow British cinema star Emma Thompson in Sense and Sensibility gave her the courage to go through with it. “I had worked with Emma Thompson, who is a very physically open and relaxed person, and I had seen her do nudity and, you know, it was a part of the story,” Winslet said (via Entertainment Weekly).

Since her legendary portrayal as Rose Dewitt Bukater, Winslet has featured in several films and shows. The ambitious actress has lately been acknowledged for her role as Joanna Hoffman in Steve Jobs. Winslet’s fans and admirers may look forward to seeing her in Avatar II and Mare of Easton in the future.
