Royal Family in shock over Meghan and Harry ‘bombshell’ interview

The shocking interview between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with Oprah Winfrey did not run until Monday evening in the United Kingdom, but the headlines were enough to demonstrate how painful it will be for the royal family.

According to palace sources, royal aides sat up until 3 a.m. on Sunday to watch the interview via video connection as it aired on CBS, rather than waiting until it broadcast on ITV at 9 p.m. last night. The  tone inside Buckingham Palace was one of “intense personal shock and sadness.”

The bombshell disclosures have dominated news coverage across the world, from Meghan having suicidal thoughts when pregnant with Archie to Harry being questioned by a family member how “dark” their child’s complexion would be.

However, the couple’s unwillingness to name the family member in their scathing TV appearance raises questions about other royals.

The charge of racism within Buckingham Palace was one of several explosive charges in Harry and Meghan’s candid interview, which will have shook the royal family to its core.

The pair offered a highly unpleasant image of life inside the royal family in a two-hour soul-baring interview with Oprah Winfrey, painting a cold, heartless institution that they had to quit to save their lives.

Winfrey said CBS This Morning that Harry told her that the racist remark was not uttered by his grandparents, but that he would not say who it was.

Meghan told Winfrey that she had suicide thoughts and “I just didn’t want to be alive anymore” at one time. She claimed she approached the palace’s human resources department for assistance but was informed there was nothing they could do.

Palace officials were concerned that the interview would make them appear out of touch, but the seriousness of the charges has startled them, according to insiders. The various households will be locked in crisis talks for the most of Monday while they figure out what to do next.

They went on to say that Harry had pressed the “nuclear button on his own family. People are just reeling.”

Lord Zac Goldsmith, a senior Government politician, denounced the pair for dropping a bomb on Buckingham Palace.

“Harry and Meghan loaded up a plane and dropped bomb after heavy bomb on Buckingham Palace in their Oprah interview,” ITV News royal editor Chris Ship tweeted.

“We wait to see how the Palace will respond to their claim

The interview, according to the anti-monarchy organization Republic, provided a clearer picture of what the royal family is like – and it’s not nice.

“Whether for the sake of Britain or for the sake of the younger royals this rotten institution needs to go,” said Graham Smith of the advocacy organization.

According to the Daily Telegraph, footage omitted from the final version “could inflict even more damage” It accuses Harry and Meghan of a “deliberate attempt to cause most harm” and claims the couple’s major grievance “seems to have been the failure to treat them as equals with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge”

Harry, a royal prince, said how his wife’s experience made him see how he and the rest of his family were trapped in an oppressive system.

“I was trapped, but I didn’t know I was trapped,” Harry explained. “My father and my brother, they are trapped.”

Meghan, he said, “saved me.”

Insiders suggested a formal investigation would be the only way to get to the bottom of the couple’s vast list of concerns – just as the Palace last week initiated an emergency investigation into accusations of bullying against Meghan.

According to one insider, “I don’t think anyone would have predicted or will even quantify the utter devastation this will cause.

“There will be no coming back from this for Harry and Meghan.

“The Palace needs to strike the right tone with its response rather than creating a knee-jerk reaction.”
