Kirsten Dunst reveals the trauma of filming s*x scenes for new movie

When actresses are asked about shooting s=x scenes, they often sidestep the subject by claiming that it is mechanical and about as pleasant as chewing one’s own foot.

Kirsten Dunst finds them to be a challenge. In her recent movie, The Beguiled, the actress has said that she found it awkward shooting personal sequences.

Dunst told E! News, “I am on the floor and my clothes are being ripped.”

“I don’t like it, I don’t like it,” she stated. “To be honest, I’m like, ‘Let’s get this over with as fast as possible.'”

S=x scenes are among of the most infamously painful moments for actors to shoot, as has been pretty well documented. The reality is that there is a lot going on behind the scenes to make such scenes pop on camera, despite the fact that most performers prefer to sell the concept that spectators are peeping into a private moment between two (or more) individuals. Shooting a love scene isn’t exactly a romantic experience in reality because of the sound and lighting crews’ presence and the uncomfortable gaps in between takes.

The actress continued by thanking Sofia Coppola, the film’s director, for moving things ahead quickly.

“At least Sofia’s like, ‘We’re going to get this done quick, I’m just gonna shoot it here, we’ll do three takes, be done,’” whereas male directors want to “shoot it from every angle.”

Colin Farrell, who co-stars with her in The Beguiled, said he tried to be as compassionate as he could when they were filming the sex scenes.

“It’s harder for women. And women have in the history of cinema … been more exploited of course, through the means of sexuality, by men than men have,” Farrell said. “So, it’s situations like that, any love scenes that I’ve been a party to over the years, you just [do] whatever your female dance partner needs.”

He concluded: “I really think a woman should be the boss completely in those scenes, whatever she needs to make her comfortable and allow her to have the freedom to do the job she needs to do.”

The Beguiled is the latest project that Sofia Coppola and the former Mary Jane Watson have worked on together. The story, which is based on a 1971 film of the same name, follows a Civil War soldier who, after suffering wounded in combat, is sent to a boarding school for girls. The rough s=x scene in the movie is a result of the ladies at the school fighting for his attention as he recovers from his injuries. The cast of the movie also features Nicole Kidman and Elle Fanning in addition to Kirsten Dunst and Colin Farrell.

By no means is this the first time Dunst and Oscar-winning filmmaker Coppolla have collaborated; they have did so on the films Marie Antoinette and The Virgin Suicides.
