Celeste and Perry, a couple fighting through the enormous highs and even more severe lows of an abusive marriage, was one of the many dramatic narrative lines in HBO’s Big Little Lies. Nicole Kidman, who played Celeste, claimed that filming the last abuse scene caused her to hurl a rock through a glass door.

Her character had been in an abusive relationship as well, and the scars on her body were all too real.

In a roundtable interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Kidman said, “I remember lying on the floor in the last episode, in my underwear, and just being really thrown around. I just lay on the floor. I couldn’t get up. I didn’t want to get up. And I remember Jean-Marc coming over and putting a towel over me in between the takes because I was just like…”

“…Too exposed?” queried Oprah Winfrey. “I just felt completely humiliated and devastated. And angry inside,” Kidman replied. “I went home and I threw a rock through a glass door.”

Nicole’s co-star, Reese Witherspoon, remembers the episode as well, saying, “We were staying at a hotel and she called me and she says: ‘I’ve just done the craziest thing.’

“She got home from work and she had one of these horrible scenes and she goes: ‘I couldn’t get into my hotel room so I threw a rock through the window.’

“And she goes: ‘I don’t do stuff like that.’”

Kidman remarked, “I was obviously holding all that rage and what had been done.”

In a March interview with Vanity Fair, on-screen husband Alexander Skarsgard, 40, described his problematic character.

He disclosed the lead actors’ coping strategies for ‘shaking off’ the pressure on set.

‘It was very important to reconnect after shooting those scenes,’ the actor stated, adding, ‘We made a point of checking in with each other, giving each other a hug.’

Nicole, on the other hand, recently confessed that she approaches her acting profession as if she were 21 years old again.

She stated: “I’m at that place in my life where I try to act as though I’m 21 and starting my career. At this stage in my life, I’m trying to stay bold and open and try things and support filmmakers that I believe in.”
