Emma Watson Wanted To Quit ‘Harry Potter’
It turns out that it wasn’t only Daniel Radcliffe who had reservations during the Harry Potter years.
Emma Watson has admitted that she contemplated leaving the series to concentrate on her academics.
Despite earning £20 million for her role as Hermione Granger, Emma has complained about the ‘horrible’ filming schedule.
Fans of the series know that Emma is just as bright and diligent as the character she plays in J.K. Rowling’s magical world. While it is impossible to envision anybody other than Emma in the role of Hermione Granger, the Perks of Being a Wallflower actress truly considered leaving the franchise at one point.
Former Harry Potter executive David Heyman told The Hollywood Reporter that Emma Watson was on the verge of hanging up her robes:

When asked about negotiating contracts for each Potter film, Heyman stated:
“Emma [Watson], in particular, was quite academic and was very keen in pursuit of schooling and was wrestling a little bit more than the others. So each time there was a negotiation, it was not about a financial [matter], it really was about, ‘Do I want to be a part of this?'”
Watson revealed that during filming The Order Of The Phoenix in 2006, her contract extension was discussed, and it became clear that filming The Half-Blood Prince would be challenging.
She said: “I always try and make decisions in my life based on what’s right for me and I just try and be true to myself.
“It was mainly to do with scheduling and I had a real fight on my hands to ensure that I was able to go to university and I was able to sit my A-levels, because the schedule they handed to me didn’t really allow for any of that and I just wasn’t prepared to let it go.”
Watson continued: “They essentially moved the Harry Potter film schedule around my exam dates, which was amazing. It all worked out.”
In response to the possibility of an unknown actress playing Hermione, Watson said, “I would have been public enemy number one, I think, if I hadn’t continued.”
The 20-year-old, who is currently a student at Brown University in New England, was committed to a contract at nine years old after being cast in the first film, Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone.
Her contract with Warner Brothers was up for renewal in 2006, when she was filming her fifth feature, The Order Of The Phoenix.
J.K. Rowling also believed Emma Watson was too beautiful to play Hermione Granger.
The actress was arguably too attractive to play the role of Hermione. At least, that’s how J.K. Rowling first perceived things. “To be honest, you and Rupert and Emma are all too good looking. You are. You know, the characters were geeky,” she said in a chat with and Daniel Radcliffe.
Nonetheless, the author confesses that after speaking with Emma, she felt the young actor was ideal for the role. Rowling recalls,
“From the first moment I spoke to Emma, I thought ‘oh thank christ.’ I did, because who knew who they were gonna cast as Hermione? I was more worried about Hermione than anyone else.”
Her co-stars, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint, who play Harry and Ron, also had the option to leave at the time, but chose not to.
Emma, on the other hand, said that she was uncertain if she wanted to continue being governed by a storyline that required her to continue looking and acting like an old-fashioned schoolgirl.
It was ‘agonising’ for her when she finally agreed to sign on for another five years, she claimed.
‘I love to make people laugh and I love being creative, but there are so many other things I love doing too,’ she said.
‘I have such a structure when I’m working on Potter. I get told what time I get picked up.
‘I get told what time I can eat, when I have time to go to the bathroom. Every single second of my day is not in my power.’
