Meghan Markle’s first children’s book is filled of “sweet little moments” from her family.

Over the weekend, the Duchess of Sussex talked to NPR about some of the “Easter eggs” and nuggets she and award-winning artist Christian Robinson hid in the pages, including a reference to the royal’s late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.

“Just all of those little Easter eggs or nuggets that are tucked within the book — I mean, there’s a lot,” Markle said.

“If people start digging, I think you can find sweet little moments that we’ve tucked in there from my favorite flower, even my husband’s mom’s favorite flower, forget-me-nots — we wanted to make sure those were included in there. There’s a lot of special detail and love that went into this book,” she added.

The Duchess, appearing for the first time since the birth of her newborn daughter Lili in June, also revealed how her two-year-old son Archie responded to her first children’s book.

Also stated by the mother of two: “It’s a love story. It’s really just about growing with someone and having this deep connection and this trust so that, be at good times or bad, you know that you had this person.” She went on: “I really hope that people can see this as a love story that transcends the story of my family.”

Families from various ethnicities, faiths, and backgrounds are shown in the book’s illustrations.

Meghan included many drawings of Harry and Archie in the book, as well as various other members of her family. Meghan is shown holding a baby – a reference to baby Lili, as her parents want to name her – and surrounded by the family’s two dogs and hens in the final illustration.

“I needed my girls in there,” Meghan said of the hens during an interview with Oprah Winfrey in March, which she shared to NPR.

Markle discussed how she collaborated with Christian Robinson, the book’s artist, to make sure the pictures were diverse.

“We both started to explore even what diversity means when you look at it through illustration,” Markle remarked in an interview with NPR.

“And it’s not just Black and white. You know, growing up, I remember so much how it felt to not see yourself represented. So any child or any family hopefully can open this book and see themselves in it, whether that means glasses or freckled or a different body shape or a different ethnicity or religion,” she added.
