Meghan and Harry used ‘Lilibet’ to ‘secure the Sussex brand’, says expert
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose the Queen’s nickname Lilibet for their newborn baby.
On Wednesday’s episode of The Morning Show in Australia, Angela Mollard claimed that the name was chosen to keep the pair connected to the palace even if their royal titles were withdrawn.
Last week, the Duke and Duchess welcomed their second child, whom they affectionately named after the Queen.
Mollard further speculated that the Queen’s hands may have been tied over the usage of the name, implying that if she said no, Harry and Meghan would have ‘complained to Oprah.’
“I imagine they used the name Lilibet to secure the brand, the Sussex brand, to make that connection to the palace.” Angela told the breakfast show’s hosts Kylie Gillies and Larry Emdur.

“It’s a personal name,” she added. “It’s a name that Philip obviously called Elizabeth. It’s too close.
“But could you imagine if the Queen had said no, they could have gone on Oprah and [complained], ‘Yeah, she wouldn’t let us use that name.'”
She went on to add that she believed Harry had “lost the right” to use the name he’d loved for numerous years as a result of his Apple TV+ series The Me You Can’t See, in which he criticized his family.
“When you trounce your grandmother for her poor parenting and then you go and take her name, it’s not a great look,” Angela asserted.
The Queen is likely ‘disappointed’ by the way Harry and Meghan have spoken about her in the media, according to Mollard, and the use of the name Lilibet is in poor taste.
‘To have [used the name Lilibet] so soon after criticising the monarchy, it just doesn’t fit with me,’ she remarked.
This comes after the couple responded to reports that they “didn’t ask” the Queen for permission to use the name.
“The Duke spoke with his family in advance of the announcement, in fact his grandmother was the first family member he called,” a spokesperson for the pair told the BBC.
“During that conversation, he shared their hope of naming their daughter Lilibet in her honor.
“Had she not been supportive, they would not have used the name.”
Last month, Harry also claimed that his father, Prince Charles, had allowed his children to ‘suffer’ at the hands of the media because of his own poor experience growing up in the Royal Family.
Harry and Meghan’s dramatic appearance with Oprah Winfrey in March shocked the globe.
During the TV special, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a number of revelations, including accusing an unidentified royal of making a racist remark about their son Archie’s skin tone and alleging that Harry’s relatives failed to assist Meghan after she revealed she was suicidal.
Lilibet, the eighth in line to the throne, was born in a private facility in Santa Barbara, California, where deliveries may cost up to $37,000.
The news of his granddaughter’s arrival was greeted with joy by Charles, who described it as “happy news”.
