John, the son of Major General Sir Francis Bowes-Lyon, was a first cousin of the Queen Mother and had served as a gentleman usher for the royal household at one point in his life.

The announcement of John’s passing came shortly after Queen Elizabeth’s state funeral at Westminster Abbey.

Her Majesty was laid to rest alongside her late husband, Prince Philip, in King George VI’s Memorial Chapel.

This sacred resting place also serves as the final resting place for her father, King George VI, the Queen Mother, and her sister, Princess Margaret.

The royal family is currently in a period of mourning following the demise of Queen Elizabeth II.

The Queen peacefully passed away at her Balmoral residence earlier this month on September 8.

However, recent updates reveal that the grieving family is now mourning the loss of two members of the royal family.

Alongside the late monarch, the Queen’s relatives are deeply saddened by the passing of John Bowes-Lyon, who was one of Her Majesty’s cousins.

John, the son of Major General Sir Francis Bowes-Lyon, shared a familial connection with Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, who was his first cousin.

Sir Francis, a descendant of the 13th Earl of Strathmore, served as a gentleman usher for the royal household.

In a heartfelt obituary published in The Telegraph, a relative expressed, “John Francis passed away peacefully on the 18th of September 2022.

Dearly Beloved Brother of Fiona and David.”

The announcement of John’s death follows a poignant funeral service held at Westminster Abbey, where members of the royal family paid their respects to the late monarch.

United in mourning, the Queen’s family bid farewell to the former head of state, who reigned for an impressive 70 years.

The ceremony was attended by the Queen’s children, King Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward, along with their partners, Queen Consort Vice-Admiral Timothy Lawrence and the Countess of Wessex.

Following the Queen’s funeral, a service took place at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.

The Right Reverend David Connor, KCVO, Dean of Windsor, led the proceedings.

Despite the sorrowful time for the family, the Queen has now been reunited with her beloved husband, Prince Philip, as well as her father, King George VI, the Queen Mother, and Princess Margaret.

All members of the family will find their final resting place in the King George VI Memorial Chapel.

Previously, Prince Philip had been laid to rest in the royal vault but has now been moved to join his wife once again.
