Rob Lowe’s former home next to Harry and Meghan Markle’s goes on sale
The Montecito property next door to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s has gone on the market for $22 million.
The seven-bedroom, 13-bathroom mansion was listed for the first time on Jan. 19. It had been on the market for 47 days when an offer was made on Saturday, but backup offers are still being welcomed.
Montecito is adored by several celebrities and billionaires due to its quiet hillside mansions and lack of paparazzi. The exquisite houses pouring down the foothills towards the Pacific Ocean have earned it the moniker “American Riviera.”
According to local news website Noozhawk, it was once the house of actor Rob Lowe.
Potential buyers are shown around the seven-bedroom mansion’s 13 bathrooms, pool with a cabana, and two separate one-bedroom guesthouses in an ad for the home. It also has a gym and views of the beach and mountains.

The property has a gigantic 16,668 square feet and stands on 5.56 acres of land.
The estate, formerly known as “Owenshire,” is one of three Montecito homes sold by billionaire Peter Sperling, the former chairman of Apollo Education Group. According to Coldwell Banker Global Luxury selling agents Joyce Rey and Timothy Di Prizito, the Sperlings purchased the mansion from Rob Lowe for $25 million in 2005.
In an Oprah interview that aired Sunday, Harry and Meghan raved over their new life in Los Angeles, sharing candid footage of son Archie playing on a beach and displaying the chickens they rescued from an industrial farm.
After confessing she had been left suicidal while living as a senior royal in the UK, Meghan told the talk show host, who also happens to be a neighbor, that their relocation to California was “greater than any fairytale you’ve ever read.”
She said she and Harry want to ‘live authentically’ and get back to ‘basics’ as they showed Oprah around Archie’s chicken coop at their $14.5 million estate.
The adjoining property, like Harry and Meghan’s, has ocean and mountain views and is surrounded by luscious lawns, citrus trees, luxuriant gardens, waterways, and bridges.
The mansion, which was completed in 1999 and was designed as an English country architectural building, has subsequently undergone substantial restorations and upgrades by luxury contractor Van Acker Construction.
The house contains a wood/metal workshop, a fire-safe room, humidity-controlled fur storage, and an eight-car garage on the lowest floor. A guesthouse, a pool house, a commercial-rated gym, and a second 5-star all-stainless steel chef’s kitchen with a pizza oven are located on the property.
According to Zillow, the property’s entry opens into a wide drive paved with hand-cut Santa Barbara Stone that leads to the main mansion through a majestic archway of trees.
A basement vehicle gallery for eight cars, a two-bay chauffeurs garage with three personnel and security offices on the upper level are among the other facilities.
According to listing agents Joyce Rey and Timothy Di Prizito with Coldwell Banker, “Montecito is an extremely attractive market offering value but with a very tight inventory of available estate properties. High-end consumers are looking for more open/natural space away from urban settings to accommodate multi-generational family needs while supporting a more environmental & sustainable lifestyle.”
