Princess Beatrice Wears Queen’s Broken Tiara on Her Wedding Day

The British royal family has a long-standing tradition of brides using their family’s jewels on their wedding day.

Princess Diana wore the Spencer-Tiara, and Duchess Camilla wore one from her mother.

However, as the backgrounds of royal spouses have become more diverse, there have been some updates to this tradition.

In the past, when Sarah Ferguson married Prince Andrew, the Queen commissioned the York Tiara for her.

But in recent years, borrowing a tiara from the Queen has become the more common choice.

Trending:

Kate Middleton borrowed the Cartier Hallow, Meghan Markle borrowed the Queen Mary Diamond Bando Tiara, and Princess Eugenie borrowed the Greville Emerald Cockishnick.

For Princess Beatrice’s wedding to Mr. Mapley Mosse, many speculated that she might choose the tiara her mother wore.

However, Beatrice had the honor of wearing the same tiara that the Queen wore on her own wedding day to Prince Philip.

This tiara holds significant memories for the monarch.

The stunning Queen Mary Fringe tiara was originally commissioned by Queen Mary using diamonds gifted to her by Queen Victoria.

In 1936, Queen Mary gave the tiara to the Queen Mother, and it became something borrowed for Princess Elizabeth’s wedding to Philip Mountbatten in 1947.

Unfortunately, on the morning of their big day, disaster struck.

Just two hours before the wedding, the tiara snapped in half as the hairdresser was fixing Elizabeth’s veil.

The Queen Mother remained calm and assured her daughter that there were still two hours and other tiaras available.

The royal family’s jeweler was on standby and managed to repair the tiara just in time for Elizabeth to wear it.

After the wedding, the tiara was returned to the Queen Mother and rarely seen in public.

However, it was lent for another royal wedding, that of Princess Anne and Mark Philip in 1973.

And now, Princess Beatrice had the privilege of wearing this historic piece.

Some claim that the tiara looked slightly wonky in pictures from Beatrice’s wedding day, but many praised its beauty.

Beatrice paired the tiara with a loaned ivory dress from the Queen.

The vintage gown, originally made by Norman Hartnell, was adapted for Beatrice by Angela Kelly and designer Stuart Parvin.

After the release of the couple’s wedding photos, royal watchers and jewelry experts couldn’t help but admire the bride’s dress and tiara.

Vincent Malin, an artist and author-historian, wrote about the history of the headpiece, describing Princess Beatrice’s wedding as “more royal than them all.”

Rebecca Selva, Fred Leighton’s creative director and expert, commented on the beautiful and traditional nature of the wedding.

Princess Beatrice’s wedding was a celebration of love, family, and tradition, with a sensitivity to the current times.

She honored her family by wearing the same tiara that the Queen wore on her own wedding day, despite its past mishap.
