Meghan Markle’s mother playing special role after Lilibet’s birth
Doria Ragland has moved into the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s California home to assist them after their daughter was born.
Meghan Markle’s mother, is “overjoyed to welcome her new granddaughter,” according to Page Six.
An insider informed Us Weekly that with the birth of her second grandchild, Lilibet “Lili” Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, Ragland is offering vital assistance to the new parents of two.
Lizzie Robinson, host of the ITV Royal Rota podcast, stated, “She’s sort of a key figure for them. Perhaps not to be nodded to in the name, I thought was quite surprising.
She went on to say, “Especially given how personal the names were and the family links.”

“They’ve had lots of lovely gifts sent from friends and family members including Doria, but the most special thing she’s provided is her time,” an inside source said. Ragland has been helping out at the Sussexes’ Montecito home with newborn Lili and new big brother Archie Harrison, according to the source. “Meghan’s so grateful to have her mom to lean on, and Harry just adores her.”
Meghan had already given Doria a subtle nod with the name Lili. Doria used to call her ‘flower’ when she was a child, according to the Duchess herself.
Ragland also supported her daughter and son-in-law with the birth of Archie, her first grandson, in 2019. She traveled to England for Archie’s birth and stayed for many weeks thereafter. However, it must be especially wonderful for the mother and daughter to no longer be separated by a long airline journey!
“Doria messaged Thomas with the news [of Archie’s birth], which Meghan had asked her to,” co-authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand wrote in their 2020 book “Finding Freedom.”
“The new mother did not want him to find out after the rest of the world. But she didn’t want to know whether her father replied to her mother’s text.”
Doria was not there during the Lili’s delivery, but she has since moved in with Harry and Meghan, like she did following the birth of her grandson in 2019, according to Page Six.
Lili’s arrival was announced by the Duke and Duchess on June 6th, and the news was published on the Archwell website.
Lili was born at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital at 11:40 a.m. on Friday, weighing 7 lbs 11 oz.
Praising her mother while recounting her tumultuous time inside royal walls, Markle, 39, told Oprah Winfrey during her bombshell interview in March: “Look, they hunted my mom down, and you’ve never heard her say a word. She’s remained in silent dignity for four years, watching me go through this.”
