A new book says that Kris Jenner was the one who released Kim Kardashian’s sex tape with Ray J, and that the whole affair was a well-planned ruse to make Kimmy famous, according to Page Six.

According to the publication, Kim signed a deal with Vivid Entertainment to release the sex tape, which was first recorded in 2003, according to a new tell-all book called Kardashian Dynasty by 51-year-old Canadian writer Ian Halperin. “A mutual friend of Kim and Paris [Hilton] had advised her that if she wanted to achieve fame, a sex tape would be the way to go…. Kim had discussed the idea of producing a tape with her family beforehand,” Halperin quotes an anonymous insider in the adult film business as saying.

Another source, allegedly a former friend of Kim’s, is quoted by Halperin. According to the book, “Kris engineered the deal behind the scenes and was responsible for the tape seeing the light of day,” (via Page Six).

Halperin then went to Vivid himself, posing as a pornographer, and was told that “both parties must sign off” before a recording can be sold. Kim’s tape was leaked because “a third party brought it to Vivid… [who] got in touch with the Kardashian family,” he was told. She also said that because it’s so likely that a celebrity’s sex video would ultimately leak, the star isn’t paid for the material. “So why not work for us?” the rep allegedly replied. “We’ll make sure it not only gets out, but that it gets distributed the way you want. I can tell you right now. Kim Kardashian’s movie came out in ’07, and she’s made millions.” Kim vowed to sue the entertainment firm when the footage originally surfaced, and was reportedly paid a $5 million settlement.

A representative for Kim Kardashian told DailyMail.com that the accusations are merely a “old regurgitated story” that has already been addressed on several times.

Kardashian has also addressed the allegations in a number of interviews, including one with Oprah Winfrey in 2012. At the time, the reality star denied sharing the tape and claimed that it had caused her family a great deal of embarrassment.

“You know, I think that’s how I was definitely introduced to the world … I like to think I’m aware, I’m not naive to that fact,” she said of the sex tape. “It was a negative way, so I thought I really had to work ten times harder for people to see the real me … I felt humiliated, I felt like: Why would anyone put that humiliation on their family like that?”

With the emergence of her sex tape, she stated that she was primarily worried about embarrassing her family, adding, ‘I’ve always been concerned about humiliating the family, and that’s what I did.’

‘And that’s something that I’m going to have to live with for the rest of my life and have to explain to my children one day. Imagine the conversation that I had to have with my grandmother.’
