Lady Sarah Chateau Joins Royal Family in Paying Respects to Queen Elizabeth II
In a solemn display of grief, Lady Sarah Chateau, the beloved daughter of Princess Margaret, attended the service at Westminster Hall following Queen Elizabeth II’s procession on Wednesday.
Lady Sarah, who maintained a close relationship with the monarch and Prince Philip after her mother’s passing in 2002, joined other members of the royal family to honor the late queen.
Accompanied by her 23-year-old son Arthur Chateau, Lady Sarah appeared visibly emotional during the service.
The news of Queen Elizabeth II’s death on Thursday, September 8, has undoubtedly devastated Lady Sarah, who has not been seen since the announcement.
While she has yet to issue a statement, her eldest son, Sam Chateau, took to Instagram stories on the day of the queen’s passing.

He shared breathtaking images of the late monarch, including a black-and-white photograph captured by his grandfather, Lord Snowden.
The photo depicted the queen donning a robe and crown, exuding warmth as she smiled for the camera.
Lady Sarah Chateau was not alone in attending Wednesday’s event.
Princess Anne, along with other members of the royal family, such as Prince William, Prince Harry, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, and their respective spouses, Eduardo Mapelli Mozzi and Jack Brooksbank, were also present.
Lady Louise Windsor, James Viscount Severn, King Charles II, Meghan Markle, Sir Tim Lawrence, Prince Andrew, and the Earl and Countess of Wessex paid their respects as well.
The late queen’s coffin had been kept overnight in the renowned bow room of her official London residence before being taken to Westminster Hall the following day.
A royal insider described Lady Sarah Chateau, who is married to Daniel Chateau, as someone who shares a sense of loyalty, fun, duty, and the absurd with the queen.
The insider also mentioned that the queen adores Lady Sarah and seeks her company whenever possible.
Their presence together is marked by laughter and a shared sense of devotion.
Lady Sarah Chateau, born in 1964, holds a special place within the royal family.
She was the last royal baby to be born at a palace rather than a hospital, arriving just weeks before her cousins Prince Edward, Lady Helen Windsor, and James Ogilvy.
The queen has been described as a surrogate mother to Lady Sarah and her siblings, with a particularly close bond between the queen and Lady Sarah, reminiscent of the queen’s late sister.
Tragedy struck Lady Sarah when she lost her mother, Princess Margaret, in February 2002 at the age of 38.
The queen allowed Lady Sarah to accompany her to Craigowan Lodge, her favorite hideaway in Aberdeenshire.
When the queen mourned the loss of her beloved husband Prince Philip in April 2021, Lady Sarah was among the family members who stayed with her during this difficult time.
Lady Sarah, along with her brother David Armstrong Jones, was also one of the 30 individuals invited to Philip’s funeral, which took place during the pandemic.
It is easy to imagine the queen and Lady Sarah reminiscing about Princess Margaret together, as the queen deeply missed her sister.
While Lady Sarah Chateau is known for her discreet personal life, she gained recognition after appearing in the BBC documentary “Elizabeth at 90: A Family Tribute.”

However, Lady Sarah, her husband Daniel Chateau, and their sons Samuel and Arthur prefer to live quietly away from the public eye.

Lady Sarah is said to have a particularly close bond with her cousin, King Charles III.
She is the godmother of Prince Harry and served as the chief bridesmaid during Charles’s wedding to Princess Diana.
Lady Sarah was also chosen as the godmother to Princess Louise, the daughter of Prince Edward, and Princess Rose, the daughter of the Duke of Gloucester.
During her early years, Lady Sarah and her older brother David resided in Kensington Palace until their parents’ divorce when she was 13 years old.
She attended Bedales, a Hampshire Boarding School, where she nurtured her artistic interests and talents.
In July 1994, Lady Sarah married Daniel Chateau in a low-key ceremony at St Stephen’s Walbrook Church.
She wore a Jasper Conran gown and adorned the Snowden floral tiara.
The couple now resides in Kensington.
