Harry and Meghan sign multi-million podcast deal with Spotify
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are launching a podcast, and Spotify will be the exclusive streaming platform.
The move comes on the heels of the couple’s multi-million pound Netflix agreement, in which they will create documentaries and feature films for the streaming site.
Since stepping down from their royal duties and moving to the United States, Harry and Meghan have been treading carefully into public life. After signing with a public speaking agency and forming a charitable organization, they are now venturing into the world of entertainment, following in the footsteps of the Obamas after they departed the White House.
Their debut podcast, set to be released around the holidays, is billed as a holiday special.
Spotify said Tuesday that it has struck a multiyear agreement with Archewell Audio, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s newly established production business, to broadcast and produce podcasts on the platform. The deal’s terms were not revealed but is rumored to be worth $25 million.

The couple stated in a statement, “What we love about podcasting is that it reminds us all to take a moment and really listen, to connect with one another without distraction.”
“With the challenges of 2020, there has never been a more important time to do so, because when we hear each other, and hear each other’s stories, we are reminded of how interconnected we all are.”
The duke and duchess promote the partnership in a video on Spotify’s website, with Harry stating, “That’s what this project is all about, to bring forward different perspectives and voices that perhaps you haven’t heard before and find our common ground.”
Later this month, Archewell Audio will broadcast a Holiday special presented by the Sussexes, in collaboration with Spotify’s Gimlet studio, “that will feature stories of hope and compassion from inspirational guests in celebration of the new year.”
It’s a major coup for Spotify, which has been aggressively investing in podcasting over the last two years. Spotify spent the summer beefing up its exclusive creator roster after completing a few deals. So far, it has attracted the likes of Joe Rogan, President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, Kim Kardashian West, and TikTok star Addison Rae.
The business has turned over 70 million of its 320 million current users into podcast listeners and is working to make its app the default podcast experience outside of the United States. It provides over 1.9 million podcast titles and has supported hundreds of original programs.
