Harry and Meghan ‘considered naming royal who made racist comments about Archie’, book claims
According to royal biographers, Prince Harry and Meghan contemplated making public the identity of the family member they accused of making racist comments regarding Archie’s skin color.
Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, royal family commentators, recall the couple’s contentious appearance with Oprah Winfrey in Finding Freedom, during which Meghan stated that the royal family was concerned about Archie’s skin color when he was born.
The charges were the most damning in the bombshell interview, and they threw the monarchy into disarray, forcing Prince William to deny that the royal family is racist.
Meghan also claimed that Archie was not proclaimed a prince because of “concerns and conversations” regarding his skin tone.
A comment from an unidentified source in the revised version indicated that “the couple had considered sharing this detail” regarding the name of the royal they accused of racism, but opted against it.

Meghan claimed the sentiments were communicated to her from talks Harry had with his family during the interview with Winfrey.
“In those months when I was pregnant…we have in tandem the conversation of ‘He won’t be given security. He’s not going to be given a title,’ and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born,” she said.
Ultimately, Meghan told Oprah that revealing the individual’s name would be “very damaging to them” during the interview.
The duke and duchess are said to have trustworthy contacts in authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.
Harry and Meghan have distanced themselves from the book, claiming that it “seems to rely on unnamed sources.”
Winfrey followed up with a query on Harry’s remarks later in the interview. “That conversation I am never going to share … but at the time it was awkward, I was in shock,” Harry explained.
Meghan found the interview “cathartic” and “liberating” but Prince William was “furious,” according to the book.
Oprah subsequently reported that Prince Harry clarified that the racial remark did not come from the Queen or Prince Philip.
“[Harry] did not share the identity with me but he wanted to make sure I knew, and if I had an opportunity to share it, that it was not his grandmother or grandfather that were part of those conversations,” Winfrey said.
The Sussexes were also dissatisfied with the way Buckingham Palace handled the Oprah allegations, according to a new chapter of the book.
Prince William reacted at the time, insisting that the Royal Family was “very much not racist”
Last Friday, Prince Harry and Meghan’s attorneys distanced the Sussexes from the latest claims made by royal biographers and threatened media outlets with legal action if they implied a dispute with the Queen had been revived.
The Queen issued a statement a few days after the interview aired, saying she was saddened to hear of the couple’s difficulties, but that “recollections may vary.”
“The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan,” the statement read.
“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning.”
“While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.
“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”
The book also includes Prince Philip’s funeral, which marked Harry’s first reunion with family members since his departure for the United States.
