In a historic turn of events, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, has officially been bestowed the title of Queen Consort as her husband, Prince Charles, assumes the role of King following the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, at the age of 96.

Previously, it was believed that Camilla would be known as Princess Consort out of respect for Charles’ first wife, the late Princess Diana.

However, Queen Elizabeth herself expressed her sincere wish for Camilla to hold the title of Queen Consort.

The news of Queen Elizabeth II’s demise came on September 8, after concerns were raised about her health.

The monarch, who reigned for an impressive 70 years, had gradually withdrawn from public duties, spending most of her summer at Balmoral in Aberdeenshire.

Her last official duty was welcoming the 15th Prime Minister, Liz Truss, earlier this week.

Now, her son, King Charles, at the age of 73, will take on his mother’s prestigious role, with Camilla by his side as Queen Consort.

A statement released by the Royal Family confirmed the news, stating that the Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral.

King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla will remain at Balmoral for the evening and return to London tomorrow.

There had been speculation that Camilla might be referred to as Princess Consort due to public opinion.

However, Clarence House clarified that both Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall were touched and honored by the decision.

It is worth noting that the late Prince Philip did not assume the title of King and was referred to as Prince Consort.

On the other hand, the title of Queen Consort is given to the spouse of a ruling king.

The uncertainty surrounding Camilla’s new title has been a long-standing topic of debate in the nation.

Camilla and Charles entered into a civil marriage in 2005, nine years after Charles and Princess Diana divorced, and eight years after Diana’s tragic death.

Prior to her marriage with Charles, Camilla was married to Andrew Parker Bowles, with whom she shares two children.

Following Queen Elizabeth II’s passing, the Duchess of Cornwall automatically became the second highest-ranking woman in the British Order of Precedence.

Camilla’s journey to acceptance within the royal family has been marked by challenges.

After the death of the popular and glamorous Princess Diana in a car crash in Paris in 1997, Camilla was vilified by the media and regarded as the most hated woman in Britain.

It seemed unimaginable that she would ever marry Charles, let alone become Queen.

Charles and Diana had separated in 1992 and divorced in 1996, with Diana often blaming Camilla for the breakdown of their marriage.

However, Charles and Camilla defied the odds and tied the knot in 2005.

Since then, she has gradually gained recognition, albeit reluctantly from some quarters, as a significant member of the royal family.

Her calming influence on Charles has been evident, helping him navigate the challenges of his role.

In a secretly recorded telephone conversation made public in 1993, Camilla told Charles, “‘I’d suffer anything for you.

That’s love.

That’s the strength of love.”

Any lingering doubts about Camilla’s future status were put to rest during Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier this year.

Queen Elizabeth expressed her heartfelt approval for Camilla taking on the title of Queen Consort, acknowledging her unwavering support throughout their service to the monarchy and the people.

Charles himself highlighted Camilla’s steadfast presence, stating, “‘As we have sought together to serve and support Her Majesty and the people of our communities, my darling wife has been my own steadfast support throughout.”
