Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry have been discreetly working on the launch of their new non-profit organization, Arche well, since the beginning of 2020. The humanitarian project follows the couple’s departure as working senior royals for the British royal family, which resulted in the demise of Sussex Royal.
Though the ArcheWell Foundation’s inauguration has been delayed owing to the Sussexes’ devotion to the Black Lives Matter movement and COVID-19 relief work, the pair has been gradually disclosing more information about the organization.
In 2014, two years before he and the Suits alum met, Harry organized the first-ever Invictus Games, with the purpose of generating money to benefit wounded, disabled, or ailing veterans while also allowing them to compete in different Paralympic-style athletic activities. The Duke of Sussex hoped that, in addition to generating finances, the games would inspire veterans and non-veterans equally, as they had done for him.
While they were engaged and after their wedding in 2018, he continued to operate the organization with Markle at his side. The 2020 Invictus Games were postponed owing to COVID-19, however the duke stated at a May webinar that the spirit of the games remained.
According to the royal family’s website, the pair even made their wedding day about charity, choosing seven groups to give back to merely because they “represent a range of issues that they are passionate about.” Children’s HIV Association (CHIVA), Crisis, Mina Manila Foundation, Scotty’s Little Soldiers, Street Games, Surfers Against Sewage, and The Wilderness Foundation UK were among the organisations that received funding.
The Archewell Foundation, founded by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, has announced a number of new groups that it will fund.
On Friday, four additional groups were included that address some of “today’s most pressing global conversations,” including those addressing mental health and systemic racism.
Color of Change, Mind, The Press Pad Charitable Foundation, and URL Media were all made public.
Following her Oprah appearance, Mind (a mental health charity) praised “Meghan Markle for speaking out about her experiences with suicidal thoughts.”
The UK-based nonprofit also collaborates with Heads Together, which was founded in 2017 by Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Prince Harry.
Color of Change bills itself as the “nation’s largest online racial justice organization.” They collaborate with Big Tech in a variety of areas, including clemency, voting, and online hate speech. It’s a cause that the pair has supported in the previous year through their previous collaborations with the Centre for Humane Technology and the UCLA Center for Critical Internet Inquiry.
