Last weekend, the news that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are suing the influential British tabloids was probably the most spoken about. The lawsuit was caused by the press’s systemic abuse of Megan, according to Prince Harry. The Duke of Sussex has likened the case to the events of 22 years ago, when his mother was killed in a traffic crash as a result of paparazzi harassment. In fact, the press’s attitude toward Megan is vastly different from how journalism handled Princess Diana. The media once adored Lady Di, but now they despise Megan. In the same way as the vast majority of British culture does. So why is it that so many people despise Meghan Markle?

She isn’t being honest.

For whatever excuse, everybody assumes Megan has remained an actress and is now only portraying a different character in public. Any time there is a new piece of information about Markle, people say that she has an insincere and forced smile. There are also those who believe Megan is only interested in wealth and is willing to use UK taxpayers’ money to upgrade the interior of her home. Megan’s hypocrisy was further demonstrated when, following her comments about caring for the world’s environmental situation, she and her husband went on a private jet vacation. They flew a number of times, causing apparent uproar among environmentalists.

She defies the rules.

Megan’s clothes are mocked, but British culture and the public are most outraged by her frequent disregard for protocol. Megan crosses her knees, wears excessive make-up, wears skirts that are too short, and publicly expresses her feelings for Harry – the list of Megan’s sins is infinite. This is a serious cause for British citizens who are proud of their Royal family and customs to condemn the Duchess of Sussex. One of the most common criticisms leveled against Megan is that she refuses to act like a Duchess, that she refuses to learn and change her habits. The Duchess sparked even more outrage when she unofficially attended the US tennis championship to support her friend Serena Williams, leaving her young son with nannies.

Megan’s background is becoming a point of contention, as her family has taken an uncertain stance on her engagement. Although Megan’s mother backs her up, her sister and father send out inflammatory interviews in which they condemn Megan’s behavior and reject her insincerity. Thomas Markle went so far as to accuse Prince Harry of not personally asking for his daughter’s hand in marriage. Thomas also said that his daughter forbade him from seeing his grandchild. Megan had no choice but to publicly declare that she was breaking all ties with her father and that she would never allow him to see her son Archie after that. There were those who sympathized with Megan’s decision, as well as those who pity the poor and abandoned father who merely desired a decent relationship with his daughter.

She is American.

Why do the English revere one Duchess while despising the other? The response is clear to the British: Megan is an American! The majority of Britons are religious, believing that only aristocrats with impeccable biographies and impeccable courtesy should serve the Royal family. This criteria is not met by an average American girl from a normal family.

She is an actress.

Another aspect of Megan’s profile that the British despise is that she is an actress, though not the most talented or well-known actress. Before the initial reports of Meghan Markle’s romance with Prince Harry, only “Suits” fans knew her. While it is a very good and high-quality series with high ratings, it has yet to achieve worldwide recognition and mainstream status. However, the announcement of Meghan Markle’s wedding to Prince Harry boosted the series’ ratings significantly. Megan’s appearance in scandalous bedroom scenes, on the other hand, has outraged conservative British society. And the Duchess considers this completely intolerable.

She is Kate Middleton’s adversary.

Kate is a popular figure in the British culture, and reports that the Duchesses don’t get along and often clash only added to the British public’s dislike for Megan. After all, we can’t say for sure how real these reports are. These rumors are spread by mysterious insiders, and Kensington Palace officials refuse to confirm them. Even such unverified evidence acts as an added justification for Markle’s detractors to suspect her with all sins.

She has little respect for the Queen.

The tabloids recently claimed that Queen Elizabeth II was so dissatisfied with Megan that she forbade anyone from saying her name aloud. It’s hard to tell if this is valid or not, but Markle’s lack of respect for the Queen is undeniable. She, for example, turned down Elizabeth’s invitation to meet her in Balmor in favor of attending the same ill-fated tennis match in America. The Queen, according to gossip, is dissatisfied with Markle and Prince Harry’s conduct, and the news that the Sussex couple has chosen to sue the press is unlikely to increase Elizabeth’s fondness for them.

She is a Dream Killer.

The last excuse to despise Meghan Markle is that she shattered the fantasies of thousands of young girls who fantasized about becoming princesses one day. Their favorite was Prince Harry, who was also more popular than his older brother. However, after his wedding to Markle, his public image started to deteriorate, and now any move the Prince makes is scrutinized.

Any of these motives can be absurd and even far-fetched, but they pose a significant challenge to the Duchess’ and her husband’s reputations. Any effort by Megan to correct the issue, in any manner, is met with rejection and ridicule, and we can only speculate about how this will effect her future life.
