‘We’re in love’: Meghan Markle says of Prince Harry
In an interview, actress Meghan Markle claims she and her then fiance, Prince Harry, are “really happy and in love.”
In the October issue of Vanity Fair, Markle said, “I can tell you that at the end of the day, I think it’s really simple. We’re two people who are really happy and in love.”
How they met and fall in love:
They were introduced by a mutual contact and knew very little about each other. “I learned everything I know about him through him,” Markle said.
“[After] only two dates and then going effectively on holiday together in the middle of nowhere [in Botswana]…it was amazing to get to know her as quickly as I did,” Harry said.
Harry, 32, and Markle, 36, took a three-week trip to Africa to celebrate Markle’s 36th birthday.
Trending:
It was widely assumed that Harry would propose on the continent he has referred to as his “second home.”
In 2016, Harry expressed his desire to one day share Africa with his children, claiming that it provides him with a feeling of “complete relaxation and normality.”
Before she and Harry left for Africa, Markle talked with Vanity Fair.
She said, “We’re a couple. We’re in love. I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time .”
“This is for us,” she said. “It’s part of what makes it so special, that it’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story .”
On the proposal
It occurred one night at Nottingham Cottage when they were all at home.
“Just a standard, typical night for us,” Harry said.
“Just a cozy night, it was—what were we doing? Roasting chicken and— ”
Harry answered, “Trying to roast a chicken.”
“Trying to roast a chicken. And it was just—just an amazing surprise, it was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got on one knee .”
Markle couldn’t wait for Prince Harry to finish proposing before accepting.
“I was like, ‘Can I say yes now?’” she adds.
The wedding
The wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle took place on Saturday, May 19, 2018.
In November, the couple announced their engagement and claimed the wedding would take place at Windsor Castle’s St George’s Chapel.
The date was unusual since royal marriages are usually held on a weekday; the Queen married on a Thursday and the Duke of Cambridge on a Friday.
The wedding was paid for entirely by the Royal Family, including the service, music, flowers, and reception.
The royal wedding will take place less than a month after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their third child into the family.
