Oprah was surprised by Harry and Meghan interview claims
Oprah Winfrey has spoken out about her interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, which aired on CBS more than a month ago.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex told Oprah in March that they felt compelled to step down from their roles as senior royals and leave the United Kingdom.
Oprah talked about her chat with Harry and Markle in a Talkshoplive video on Friday, and the part that most ‘surprised’ her.
‘Were you surprised at how open they were?’ Nancy O’Dell asked Winfrey during the 55-minute live stream.
‘I was surprised,’ Oprah said. ‘I was surprised at that thing that’s now become a meme that’s like, “What?’ I’m like, ‘What? You’re going there? You’re going all the way there?” ‘

‘I had no idea that it would have the reverberating impact that it has had and continues to have,’ she said, adding that prior to the interview, she texted Harry and Markle to ask about their ‘intention’ in doing the interview.
‘Whenever I’m doing interviews with anybody for anything that is significant, I have a conversation with them before,’ she said. ‘I didn’t see Harry and Meghan before but I did text them and say intention is very important to me, tell me what your intention is so that we can be aligned in our goal.’
‘And our shared intention was the truth. They wanted to be able to tell their story and tell it in such a way that allowed them to be as truthful as possible.
Meghan told a clearly surprised Oprah Winfrey that an unidentified member of the royal family had “conversations with Harry about how dark [Archie’s] skin might be when he’s born,” which was a stunning revelation.
The interview, which was watched by 49 million viewers and sent shockwaves around the world, prompted the royal family to address whatever pain they may have caused the couple.
Buckingham Palace issued the following statement on behalf of the Queen: ‘The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.’
‘The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. While some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.’
