In a groundbreaking interview with Oprah Winfrey, Meghan and Harry sparked a sensation around the globe by saying there was controversy with the Palace about their baby. Although the public believed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had refused titles for Archie when he was born almost two years earlier, in an attempt to keep him a private person,  Meghan claimed that protocol had been altered to prevent Archie from being titled Prince.

As the Royal Family’s scandal unfolds, further confusion has been revealed over Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor’s first name.

George reportedly introduced himself as Archie to a member of the public in January 2019.

When the young Prince told a stranger his name is Archie, it sparked a debate over whether it was a family nickname or something he chose of his own.

    A dog walker stumbled upon the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s five-year-old son playing with his younger sister Charlotte in a creek outside the Middleton family home in Berkshire as he was out with his grandmother Carole Middleton.

    The lady, who did not want to be identified, said. “I was asked by a police minder not to take a photo of the children, which I didn’t, but George started stroking my dog. Just to be friendly I engaged in a bit of small talk and I asked George what his name was, even though obviously I knew it.

    “To my astonishment he said ‘I’m called Archie’ with a big smile on his face. I don’t know why he calls himself Archie but kids often play with their names and I think it’s lovely.”

    Is it possible that’s where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle got their ides?

    Archie is a short form of Archibald, which means real, courageous, and brave. It was first used in Germany and then in Scotland.

    George, who is third in line to the throne, like several other members of the royal family, also have a number of nicknames. Alexander and Louis are his middle names.

    And he goes by the nickname PG at school.

    Kate and William began to refer to him as PG Tips or simply ‘Tips,’ after the tea brand.

    Kate referred to him as “our little grape” when she was pregnant.

    Prince George isn’t the only Royal with a cryptic moniker. During his undergraduate days, Prince William was known to go by the name “Steve,” and Prince Harry was said to go by the name “Spike Wells” on Facebook.

     

    The Cambridges were said to be considering not sending their children to ‘traditional’ high schools like Eton last year.

    The Sussexes’ choice of the name Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor surprised Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty news, according to the BBC.

    “I don’t think any of us saw either [Archie or Harrison] coming,” he said.

    “It may well be that it’s a name that Meghan is familiar with and that’s why they are using it.

    “They have wanted to do something a little bit different and they have done.”

    When their nephew was born, William and Kate made no statement on the naming decision, only expressing their public congratulations.

    Meghan is expecting her second child, and she confirmed to Oprah that it is a girl who will come in “summertime.”
