The annual Trooping the Colour ceremony is a much-anticipated event that marks the official birthday of the British monarch.

One of the most exciting moments of the ceremony is when the Royal Family appears on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to greet the public and watch a flyover by the military aircraft.

However, this year’s event left many fans puzzled as there was an enormous gap when the family stepped out.

Viewers with sharp eyes noticed some unusual gaps in the cluster of monarchy members towards the end of the service.

In particular, a few “awkward” points were left wide open between Prince William and King Charles.

The Firm has been reducing the number of royals who would normally appear alongside the monarch for the key moment.

But a significant gap between the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh and elder royals like the Duke of Kent and Duchess of Gloucester turned a few heads.

The absence of some lesser-known names such as the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh’s children, James, Earl of Wessex, and Lady Louise Windsor, as well as the Queen’s cousin Princess Alexandra, was also noted.

The total number of Royals on the balcony reached just 14, which was three fewer than the previous year.

According to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams, the King was surrounding himself with “the people he could rely on.”

The Cambridges have become some of the most hardworking Royals in recent years.

It is possible that King Charles may have been focusing on the most hardworking members of the family.

Prince Andrew, who has been embroiled in a scandal, was also dropped from the balcony appearance.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who have not attended any royal events since 2021, were also absent.

Some speculate that their absence was due to the ongoing rift between the couple and the rest of the royal family.

However, it is worth noting that the couple had already announced their intention to step down as senior royals and move to North America before the pandemic.

The Trooping the Colour ceremony has a long history dating back to the 17th century.
