At 2.45pm, a funeral procession began, which involved the appearance of a specially adapted Land Rover bearing the Duke’s coffin at the chapel.

The Band of the Grenadier Guards led the parade, which was accompanied by the Major General commanding the Household Division, service chiefs, members of the royal family on foot, Philip’s household staff, and eventually the Queen in a Bentley.

The Duke’s four children, Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, and Princess Anne, as well as grandsons Prince William and Prince Harry, walked behind the hearse.

When they walked behind their grandfather’s coffin, William and Harry, whose bond has lately been strained, were separated by their cousin Peter Phillips.

Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence and the Earl of Snowdon were among those who walked behind the coffin in a row further along.

The Princes, who have been at odds for at least a year, set aside their disagreements and marched in the funeral procession for their beloved grandfather, Prince Philip, on Saturday, More than 20 years after walking behind Princess Diana’s coffin.

Seeing the brothers walk together behind Prince Philip’s coffin brought back memories of William and Harry walking behind their mother’s coffin at her funeral in 1997.

Following Diana’s untimely death in a car accident in Paris, William, then 15, and Harry, then 12, led a procession that included their father, Prince Charles, Prince Philip, and Diana’s brother, Charles Spencer, behind her coffin.
