In the world of celebrity gossip, rumors of secret romances are always swirling.

And one such rumor involved Irish golfer Rory McIlroy and the now-Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle.

According to author Emily Herbert, who penned the book “Harry and Meghan, The Love Story,” Rory and Meghan were said to have grown close around 2014.

And there is even social media evidence to support this claim.

During the height of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge craze in 2014, Meghan participated in the challenge alongside Northern Irish golfer Rory McIlroy.

In fact, it was Rory who nominated Meghan to take part in the challenge for the ALS Association.

And she gladly accepted, allowing him to pour a bucket of ice water over her head.

The whole event was captured on video and shared on Meghan’s Instagram account.

But their connection didn’t end there.

In a surprising move, Rory challenged not only former US President George W. Bush and English footballer Wayne Rooney but also Meghan herself, who was then starring in the hit TV show “Suits.”

And true to form, Meghan took up the challenge and had her good friend Rory dump the icy water over her head once again.

She even tweeted about it, using the hashtag #ALSIceBucketChallengeAccepted and expressing her gratitude to Rory.

While some speculated that there might be more to their relationship, Meghan and Rory were quick to deny any romantic involvement.

They were spotted having dinner together in Dublin, but both insisted they were just friends.

At the time, Meghan was actually in a relationship with a Canadian chef, whom she had been seeing for several months.

The couple had managed to keep their romance out of the public eye, with Meghan’s beau even flying to Ireland to be by her side during her work with One Young World.

As for Rory, he has been linked to other women since ending his engagement to tennis player Caroline Wozniacki in May.

Irish models Sasha Gale and Nadia Ford have both been rumored to have caught his eye.

However, Rory has remained tight-lipped about his personal life and has not commented on any of these reports.

It’s worth noting that Rory has a strong connection to Ireland, as he recently purchased a house in his hometown of Hollywood, County Down.

This comes two years after he put his former Northern Ireland home up for sale.

The impressive estate, situated on 14 acres in Monterrey, featured five bedrooms, a gymnasium, and even a golf practice area with a putting green and driving range.

But due to his increasing overseas commitments, Rory decided to sell the property.

Despite the rumors and speculations, Meghan ultimately found love elsewhere.

She ended up in a relationship with Toronto-based chef Corey Vitiello, whom she eventually moved in with.

Meanwhile, Rory called off his engagement to Caroline and later tied the knot with Erika Stoll in April 2017 at Ashford Castle in Mayo.

Meghan’s love life has been the subject of much public interest, with previous relationships including a failed marriage to producer Trevor Engelson.

Their union ended sourly, with Meghan reportedly sending their wedding rings back to him in the mail just 18 months after their wedding.

She also had a brief fling with Canadian hockey star Michael Del Zotto before meeting Prince Harry.

With all these past relationships and rumored exes, one can’t help but wonder about the complexities of Meghan’s romantic history.

As for Rory, he seems focused on his golf career and keeping his personal life private.

Only time will tell if there are any more surprises in store for these two high-profile individuals.
