Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in Britain, sadly passed away on September 8th at the age of 96.

Her death has brought to light various complexities within the royal family, particularly concerning Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, who stepped down as senior royals in 2020.

In her new book titled “The New Royals: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Future of the Crown,” author Kay Nicole claims that both Meghan Markle and Prince Harry declined the Queen’s invitation to visit her at Balmoral Castle, not just once, but twice.

Despite the tensions that arose after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s departure, Queen Elizabeth II maintained a close relationship with her grandson and his young family.

According to Kay Nicole, the Queen made efforts to keep the Sussexes connected to the royal family and enjoyed video calls with Harry, Meghan, and their two children, three-year-old Archie Harrison and one-year-old Lilibet Diana.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry resigned from their senior roles within the royal family and relocated to North America early in 2020.

Since then, they have only returned to the UK on three occasions, briefly visiting in April before attending the Platinum Jubilee celebrations and later the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.

However, despite the late monarch’s efforts, there were times when she felt hurt and disappointed by Harry and Meghan, as revealed by Kay Nicole during a recent episode of the “Today for Podcast.”

The Queen used to host a lovely weekend at the end of August, a big sleepover for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and she always extended an invitation to Harry and Meghan.

However, they did not attend in the last couple of summers, which deeply affected the Queen.

Not being together during Christmas and at Balmoral, especially when the Queen wanted to bring the family together, caused her pain.

Since 2019, Harry and Meghan have not spent Christmas with the royal family.

Instead, they chose to celebrate the festive season in Canada with Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.

In January 2020, the couple announced their decision to step back from royal duties and move to the United States.

Consequently, they have been absent from the UK during Christmas.

Similarly, they declined an invitation to spend the summer at Balmoral, the royal family’s estate in Scotland.

Despite the attacks they faced, Prince Charles extended his invitation to Harry and Meghan, hoping it would be an opportunity for everyone to relax and reconcile, but they declined.

These reports emerged before Harry and Meghan’s visit to Europe, during which they engaged in charity work in the UK and attended the Invictus Games event in Germany.

However, following Queen Elizabeth’s death, the couple extended their stay in the UK to mourn with the rest of the royal family.

Harry immediately traveled to Balmoral Castle, where his grandmother had passed away, and reunited with his father and older brother.

This marked his first visit to the Scottish estate since his royal exit.

According to Kay Nicole, Prince Harry had declined his grandmother’s invitation to spend time at Balmoral in 2019, indicating that the Duke and Duchess had distanced themselves from the royal family months before their official departure.

In her book, she highlights that Harry and Meghan preferred taking Archie to Ibiza and the south of France instead of participating in the traditional weekend at Balmoral, as it didn’t align with their desired narrative.

While Queen Elizabeth II was disappointed by the distance between Meghan, Harry, and the royal family, she still cherished the idea of keeping the family together.

Kay Nicole claims that the Queen’s instinct was to protect Harry, despite the complexities that arose.

As we reflect on this news, it raises questions about whether Harry and Meghan regret their decision or if they genuinely do not care about the consequences.

Only time will tell.
