The late Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was remembered and bid farewell by his beloved wife, Queen Elizabeth, during an emotional funeral service at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

The Queen carried cherished keepsakes from their 73 years together inside her handbag as she sat alone, paying her final respects.

According to Mail Online, Her Majesty carried one of Philip’s trademark white handkerchiefs, crafted by his Savile Row tailors, Kent and Haste.

These crisply folded squares, a staple of the Duke’s classic style, were often seen tucked into the breast pocket of his impeccably tailored suits.

Among the personal mementos was a small photograph of the couple as newlyweds, believed to have been taken in Malta.

Malta held great significance for the pair, as they resided in Villa Garda Mangia near the capital Valletta after their marriage.

Philip served as a naval officer with HMS Magpie on the Mediterranean island from 1949 to 1951.

It was during this time that Princess Elizabeth, now Queen Elizabeth, experienced a more ordinary life before ascending to the throne.

Malta held a special place in their hearts, and they returned regularly, even celebrating their 60th anniversary there in 2007.

The photo was safely kept in the Queen’s handbag, a creation by the esteemed British brand Launa, which has held a royal warrant since 1969.

Queen Elizabeth is known to have around 200 handbags in various styles, and they have always been a favorite accessory of hers.

These bags have not only served as fashionable companions but also as vessels for carrying precious objects.

Reportedly, the Queen would carry a collection of good luck charms given to her by her children and grandchildren.

However, the items she carried on this somber occasion to bid her husband farewell held a significance and sentimentality like no other.

In addition to the photograph and handkerchief, the Queen wore the diamond Richmond brooch.

This exquisite piece was a gift from the town of Richmond for Queen Mary’s wedding to King George V in 1893.

It has been passed down through the generations and was worn by Queen Elizabeth during the funeral ceremony.

During the Covid-secure funeral at Windsor Castle, the grieving monarch left a personal, handwritten note to her late husband.

It is said that the note was signed with her sentimental nickname, Lilibet, and placed alongside a wreath of white lilies, small white roses, and white freesia, carefully chosen by Her Majesty.

The note appears to be a final farewell from the Queen to her husband of 73 years, whom she had to mourn in solitude, away from her family, within the walls of St George’s Chapel.

Throughout the service, the Queen wiped away tears and bowed her head in reverence as she accompanied Philip’s coffin on its final journey.

Her eldest son, Prince Charles, also shed tears as he walked behind the casket into the church.

Princess Anne, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward joined Charles in the procession, walking behind the Land Rover Defender Hearse that Philip had helped design.

Prince Harry, Prince William, Peter Phillips, Vice Admiral Tim Lawrence (Princess Anne’s husband), and Antony Armstrong Jones (the Queen’s nephew) followed closely behind.

With their heads bowed, the Queen and Philip’s children and grandchildren comprised the majority of the 30-strong congregation.
