Prince Edward Favored to Inherit Duke of Edinburgh Title
Prince Philip, who held the title of Duke of Edinburgh since his marriage to Princess Elizabeth in 1947, passed away on April 9, 2021.
It was widely expected that the title would be passed down to another member of the royal family.
While it had been understood that the Duke wanted his youngest son, the Earl of Wessex, to inherit the title, the final decision now rests with Prince Charles, the new King.
When Prince Edward and Sophie Rhys-Jones tied the knot in 1999, they were bestowed with the titles of the Earl and Countess of Wessex.
At the time, Buckingham Palace also announced that Edward would eventually succeed his father as the Duke of Edinburgh, but only after the death of both Philip and the Queen.

The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, and the Prince of Wales have agreed that Prince Edward should be given the Dukedom of Edinburgh when the current title reverts to the crown.
Royal fans have expressed their support for Prince Edward becoming the next Duke of Edinburgh, especially after his recent visit to Newcastle to express gratitude to those involved in the Queen’s funeral, which took place on September 19 at Westminster Abbey.
During his visit, Edward met with several individuals who participated in the funeral service.
Many fans eagerly await the passing on of the title to Prince Edward, the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II.
Social media has been abuzz with comments from supporters of Prince Edward.
Karen Smith tweeted, “Sincerely hope the Earl and Countess are made Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, they worked so hard for our country.”
Another user, Jogab, wrote, “It’s time to pass along the Dukedom of Edinburgh, it’s only appropriate.”
Joomz, a third Twitter user, stated, “Hard worker just like his dad was, he deserves to be the new Duke of Edinburgh.”
While reports suggest that Prince Philip desired his youngest son to inherit the title, the ultimate decision now rests with King Charles III.
