Police release photos of shotgun Kurt Cobain used to kill himself
Kurt Cobain, the lead singer of Nirvana, shot himself with a shotgun more than twenty years ago, and police in Seattle have published pictures of the weapon.
Cobain’s corpse was discovered on April 8, 1994, and his death was determined to be a suicide.
Det. Michael Ciesynski, the current detective of record for the Kurt Cobain investigation with the Seattle Police Department, is shown holding the shotgun in different angles in the new images.
According to police, the images were shot in June 2015, entered to Seattle’s computer system on March 3, and since then have been added to the investigation’s file.

Despite the fact that images from Cobain’s death scene have been made public throughout the years, this is the first time the murder weapon has been seen clearly.
The images were acquired via an open records request and address the allegations of conspiracy theorists that the Seattle police melted the gun to conceal Cobain’s murder.
Despite the band’s success, Cobain lost interest in stardom and started using heroin.
An inquiry revealed that Cobain had ingested a significant amount of heroin days earlier in the greenhouse of his huge home. Then, using a 20-gauge shotgun, he shot himself.
The world-famous rock star was sporting a pair of purple Converse All-Star shoes and blue pants. In a cigar box at his side, he held his narcotics supply.
Before the 20th anniversary of his death, many rolls of undeveloped film that were shot at his residence were found. Seattle Police have previously published photographs of the evidence they found there.
When Ciesynski heard there was undeveloped film, he wanted to develop it before it could be destroyed and possible evidence would be lost, he said in 2014. After 20 years, the film had degraded, and the photographs that had been produced had a definite green tinge.
Police released 34 more photos taken at the site after releasing two of the original photos in 2014 in response to many demands for the pictures from the public.
Following a lawsuit filed by Richard Lee, who alleges that Cobain was killed, Cobain’s widow Courtney Love and their daughter Frances Bean Cobain appeared in court in July 2015 to block the publication of photos and data from the site of his death. His lawsuit was dismissed.
Along with bands like Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Mudhoney, Cobain, who was 27 at the time of his death, contributed to the success of grunge rock in the Pacific Northwest.
Nirvana was one of the most well-known bands in the early 1990s, whose songs like “Smells Like Teen Spirit” became the anthem for many members of Generation X. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 and has sold more than 75 million albums worldwide.
