Meghan and Prince Harry’s cheerleader quits Commonwealth Trust
There is another sudden exit only six weeks after Prince Harry and Meghan were relieved of their beloved duties as president and vice-president of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust.
A close friend of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has recently resigned from a top Commonwealth role.
Nicola Brentnall, the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust’s chief executive, is said to have resigned.
Trending:
Brentnall’s role in Harry and Meghan’s controversial video chat last summer, in which they compared the Queen’s beloved Commonwealth to slavery, sparked outrage.
Ms Brentnall was reportedly critised within Commonwealth circles for being a “cheerleader” for the Sussexes, according to the Daily Mail.
It’s safe to conclude that certain influential people thought it was best that she went on, a source told the publication.
‘We are an organisation that’s meant to celebrate the Commonwealth, yet she was letting, or even encouraging, Harry and Meghan to make it sound like we’re some backward movement stuck in a racist, colonial past.’
The Commonwealth is a 54-nation alliance group, almost all of which were once members of the British Empire.
Brentnall agreed to stay as Chief executive for five years in 2016, according to a spokesperson, and therefore she did not resign until the end of the period.
In a video conference with youth leaders, the Sussexes said that in the midst of the Black Lives Matter protests, the Commonwealth must acknowledge previous ‘wrongs,’ even though it is ‘uncomfortable,’ while they addressed historical inequality, unconscious prejudice, and racism.
The Commonwealth, which is led by the Queen, has a total population of over 2.4 billion individuals, rendering it one of the world’s biggest global organizations.
Brentnall will continue to consult with the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust until June and will stay close to the team at all times.
The Sussexes said, the ‘family of nations’ will be unable to advance, if they didn’t follow their advice.
This infuriated the courtiers, who pointed out that the Commonwealth was a voluntary organization with little ‘uncomfortable’ history.
The QCT was founded in April 2018 to assist the Commonwealth, with a special emphasis on youth leaders.
Brentnall welcomed Meghan Markle to the QCT as vice president in 2019.
After announcing they will not return to serve as working royals, Harry and Meghan were relieved of their honorary military appointments and royal patronages in February.
