Katie Holmes has kept a low profile since she rose to stardom in 1998 as Joey Potter on Dawson’s Creek.

Katie is presently working on a number of projects, including the films Brahms: The Boy II and The Secret: Dare to Dream, as she prepares to direct Rare Objects.

Katie Holmes was married to Tom Cruise from 2006 until 2012 and had a daughter, Suri, with him. After the famous couple divorced after six years of marriage, Holmes opted to move from Los Angeles to New York to raise her daughter, Suri.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were the perfect Hollywood power couple. The star actor had the world rooting for him when he and actress Katie Holmes settled down and married in 2006. That they shouldered an age difference of 16 years never seemed relevant.

Katie Holmes reflected on raising her now-13-year-old daughter, Suri.

The 41-year-old spoke up about establishing a new life in New York City and the Khaite cashmere bra that made her a viral fashion phenomenon in the April 2020 cover story with InStyle.

“I’ve gotten a lot of attention at different periods in my life. And when you have a lot of attention, sometimes you don’t want to leave the house because it’s just too much,”  Holmes recalled of her life before fame.

“You can get consumed by what people think, but suddenly you just decide to do things on your own terms. I feel like I’m finally figuring that out. I’m getting the projects I want made and just relaxing a little,” added Holmes.

Holmes, who stated that her city life is very hectic, with everything from Broadway Dance Center dance lessons to book club meetings, admitted that it took some time to acclimate ,”That time was intense. It was a lot of attention, and I had a little child on top of it. We had some funny moments out and about in public.”

“We had some funny moments out and about in public. So many people I didn’t know became my friends and helped us out, and that’s what I love about the city.”

“There was one incredible moment when I think I actually cried. Suri was 6 or 7, and she was spending the night at a friend’s house while I was seeing the ballet at Lincoln Center. At 10 o’clock I got a call: ‘Mommy, can you come get me?’” began Holmes.

“I got a cab and went down to Battery Park to pick her up. She was exhausted. She fell asleep on the way home, and when we pulled up to our building, the cab driver opened the door and helped me not wake her. He helped carry her to the building. He was so kind.”

When a “kind” cab driver assisted Holmes in carrying her sleeping kid to their building at the time, the Dawson’s Creek alum “actually cried.”

Holmes also discussed how her celebrity has evolved since her Dawson’s Creek days. “Obviously, the world was not what it is today – there weren’t as many paparazzi or people with phones,” she remarked of her celebrity in the 1990s.

“But it was still weird that I was treated differently. It felt unnatural, and I didn’t understand it. Now I don’t lead with being a public person; I lead with being a person. You should be kind because that’s what people do, not because you want people to think you are kind.”

But, as she’s gotten older, the actress has come to grips with life in the spotlight, and she sounds more at ease with herself than ever before.

Katie’s relationship with her 14-year-old daughter Suri is undeniably strong. The actress didn’t hold back when it came to her feelings for her kid, saying;

“I love her so much. My biggest goal has always been to nurture her into her individuality.

“To make sure she is 100 percent herself and strong, confident, and able. And to know it. She came out very strong — she’s always been a strong personality. She’ll pick an activity and work her butt off until she’s really good at it. Then she’s like, ‘OK, I’m going to try the next thing.’

“She’s pretty special.”
