FEUD: George Clooney says Russell Crowe ‘Picked A Fight With Me’

George Clooney is reminiscing about his 15-year rivalry with co-star Russell Crowe.

Crowe said in a 2005 interview with The Guardian that stars such as George Clooney and Brad Pitt are doing themselves a disservice by moonlighting as product ambassadors with multi-million dollar commercial agreements. “I don’t do ads for suits in Spain like George Clooney or cigarettes in Japan like Harrison [Ford]. I mean, Robert De Niro advertising American Express. Gee whiz, it’s not the first time he’s disappointed me,” Crowe told the outlet at the time.

And now George Clooney, who will grace the cover of GQ’s “Man of the Year 2020” issue, stated that Crowe’s harsh remarks caught him completely off guard.

“Just out of the blue, [Crowe]’s like, ‘I’m not some sell-out like Robert De Niro and Harrison Ford and George Clooney.’ I’m like, ‘Where the f*** did that come from?'” Clooney remarked in a new interview with GQ Magazine.

In an interview with Esquire, George Clooney claimed that Russell Crowe sought to make up for his words by giving him a book of poetry, among other things. “He picked a fight with me,” Clooney remarked. “He started it for no reason at all. He put out this thing saying, “George Clooney, Harrison Ford, and Robert De Niro are sell-outs,”‘ adding, “And I put out a statement saying, ‘He’s probably right. And I’m glad he told us, ’cause Bob and Harrison and I were also thinking about starting a band, which would also fall under the heading of bad use of celebrity.'” Clooney was referring to Crowe’s Australian rock band 30 Odd Foot of Grunts, which he was a member of from 1992 to 2005 and didn’t seem to be a fan of.

Crowe reportedly attempted to retract his remarks, but it did not come out how he had planned.

Clooney added, ‘And that’s when he really went off on me. “Who the f**k does this guy think he is? He’s a Frank Sinatra wannabe.” He really went after me.’

Crowe sought to apologize to Clooney after learning that he could run into him during the next awards season.

‘I think he said, “I was misquoted.” I was like, “Yeah, yeah, whatever,”‘ Clooney said.

The legendary actor would rather watch others fight on social media than get involved in one himself.

‘I have much more fun watching Chrissy Teigen. Somebody steps into her world and you go, “Oh, I wouldn’t do that, dude.” It’s so much fun,’ he said.

The entire situation was very ‘relatable’ on social media: “George Clooney holding a seven-year grudge against Russell Crowe is me,” one user remarked on Twitter.

Another remarked, “Russell Crowe living rent free in George Clooney’s head.”
