The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made their much-anticipated appearance at Ascot Racecourse today, leading members of the firm in the first carriage of the Royal Procession.

This year’s races marked their first attendance, adding to the excitement surrounding the event.

Accompanying Kate and William in the carriage were the Honourable Arthur George Vestey and his wife, Martha.

Arthur, whose elder brother is a close friend of the Duke and a fellow Old Etonian, is also the son of Baron Samuel Vestey, a former Master of the Horse and a friend of the Queen.

Royal commentator Richard Eden described the decision to ride with the Vesteys as a lovely gesture.

In a tweet, he commended the Duke and Duchess for inviting Arthur and Martha to travel in their carriage, particularly considering the difficult time Arthur has faced during the pandemic, having lost both his parents.

Lord Vestey, Arthur’s father, was known to frequently ride in the Queen’s carriage.

As they journeyed to the racecourse, Kate and William were seen engaging in friendly conversation with their guests.

The wind posed a challenge for Kate, who had to hold onto her hat to ensure it remained in place.

However, her spirits remained high as their carriage entered the racecourse and passed in front of the enclosures.

Kate wore a wide smile and enthusiastically waved to the crowds of fans who had gathered over the past few hours, eagerly awaiting the royal couple’s arrival.

Among the members of the firm participating in the procession today was Peter Phillips, the son of Princess Anne.
