Donald Trump awkwardly refers to Barron as ‘Melania’s son’

How US President Donald Trump calls his son Barron has made headlines on Twitter. On Wednesday, Trump claimed that the administration is contemplating banning flavored e-cigarettes in light of an increase in teenage vaping. The US First Lady Melania Trump is also troubled by this, he said. However, his explanation of why Melania feels this way about it left Twitter baffled.

After some blathering about the EU, China, and defending American businesses, Trump told a news conference at the White House, “Vaping has become very big business as I understand it, giant business in a very short period of time. But we can’t allow people to get sick, and we can’t have our youth be so affected… that’s how the First Lady got involved. She’s got a son – together – that’s a beautiful young man, and she feels very very strongly about it.”

Barron Trump, 13, is that beautiful young man, and, as far as anybody can tell, he is also very much Donald Trump’s son. The phrase “She’s got a son – together” crosses the line from passive to three-months-comatose voice.

Twitter users weighed in, with one writing: “‘She’s got a son’, and not ‘we have a son’. Bet that makes Barron feel all warm and fuzzy.”

Added another, “He’s such a bad dad. All those weekly golfing trips and I haven’t seen Melania’s son in any of them.”

Another commenter commented, “I hate when he reminds us he’s not just a terrible president and person but that he is also a terrible father.”

This creative distancing is typical Trump. It reminds me of the numerous occasions when Trump has mentioned a statistic or fact in the middle of an interview, been questioned about it, and then shrugged and said, “I don’t know, that’s what they tell me, it’s not my numbers.”

The multibillion dollar vaping industry has been propelled by sales of flavor-enhanced nicotine formulas like “grape slushie” and “strawberry cotton candy,” but the proposed flavor ban could completely transform it.

According to Alex Azar, secretary of health and human services, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will be entrusted with creating regulations to ban all e-cigarette flavors—aside from tobacco—from the American market.

The health authorities are looking into six fatalities and hundreds of lung ailments recorded in individuals who have used e-cigarettes and other vaping devices as Mr. Trump makes his first public remarks on the topic.

Despite the fact that marijuana vaping is purportedly involved in many instances, no specific gadget, component, or addition has been found.

Officials said that the FDA-regulated nicotine vaping goods will be the only ones subject to the limitations.

Since 2016, the FDA has had the right to outlaw vaping flavors, but it has in the past defied pleas to do so.

Agency representatives said that they were researching whether flavors may benefit users in quitting regular cigarettes.

Melania had before warned about the risks of vaping and the widespread use of flavored e-cigarettes.

“Data shows a high usage of flavored e-cigarettes among our youth. It’s our responsibility as parents to understand the dangers that come from vaping. Our Administration supports the removal of flavored e-cigarettes from stores until they’re approved by @US_FDA. #BeBest”

Trump was the target of ruthless teasing on Twitter in March for a mistake of a similar kind. Tim Cook was sitting next to Trump when Trump referred to him as “Tim Apple” at a White House event. The error immediately went viral.
