Charlie Sheen Fired Selma Blair From ‘Anger Management’ After Feud
Selma Blair of Anger Management was removed off the program after Charlie Sheen, the show’s star actor and producer, threatened to walk out unless she was forced to leave.
“We are confirming that Selma Blair will not be returning to ‘Anger Management,’ and we wish her the very best,” Lionsgate Television said, confirming speculations that she is departing the program following a spat with co-star Sheen.
Sheen, 47, allegedly aided in the actress’ abrupt exit, according to TMZ. According to the outlet, the tumultuous actor (who was sacked from Two and a Half Men in 2011 after a public spat with show creator Chuck Lorre) vowed to quit the program if Blair, 40, was not removed.
Charlie Goodson, a minor league baseball player with serious anger problems, is the focus of Sheen’s role in Anger Management. Due to his reoccurring rage problems, Charlie finds it difficult to grow in his profession. Charlie is able to handle his difficulties and ultimately make it to the big leagues with the aid of Blair’s character, Dr. Kate Wales.
However, a relapse during a big-league game culminated in a career-ending injury when he broke a bat over his knee in rage. Following the event, Charlie returned to school and went on to become a therapist specializing in anger management.
Trending:
According to TMZ, which broke the story on Monday, Sheen’s famed anger erupted when he learned that Blair had supposedly complained to executives about the actor being consistently late and having a terrible work ethic.
Sheen allegedly reminded “everyone” on Anger Management that he was the show’s star, with the most lines, and claimed to have “fired” Blair – but no proof was given outside of TMZ’s “sources.”
The actor, predictably, had his way, sending Blair “a strongly worded text in which he dismissed her from the series and called her a ‘c—-,'” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Blair’s firing, according to many sources, had been planned for some time prior to her unexpected departure. “America didn’t want to see Charlie with just one girlfriend,” the showrunners reasoned, so they intended to phase her out gradually and with a compelling plot.
Sheen seemed to speed the process, and another female character was brought to the program. Blair threatened to sue Lionsgate Entertainment and the actor for $1.2 million in missing earnings, which she claimed she was entitled. According to TMZ, both sides are attempting to reach an agreement.
Blair’s concerns triggered Sheen’s rage and resulted in her dismissal. Blair’s role as Charlie’s therapist, according to my sources, will not be recast. I understand the series recently put out a notice about a new female regular who is supposed to fill the vacuum left by Blair, which is probably not coincidence. Following the recent tinkering in response to Anger Management’s declining ratings, the producers are expected to utilize Blair’s departure for another creative makeover. While the program was forced to take an unforeseen break for a recent creative retool, it is now slated to resume production as planned, with the writers making on-the-fly alterations in response to Blair’s departure. FX’s 100-episode order for Anger Management is around halfway completed. According to reports, Blair is being paid in accordance with her contract, and no legal action is planned, at least for the time being.
