Amber Heard’s former personal assistant said on Wednesday that she told the model-actress about a brutal sexual assault she had experienced, only for Heard to “twist” the story for her own benefit. Kate James testified in Johnny Depp’s libel case against a British tabloid publication that accused him of assaulting ex-wife Amber Heard throughout their relationship.

Kate James testified remotely from Los Angeles that she had received a flood of drunken, aggressive, and nonsensical text messages from Heard between the hours of 2 and 4 a.m.

Kate, who worked for the 34-year-old actress from 2012 to 2015, said that she told Heard about being raped at machete-point in Brazil 25 years ago.

Ms James claimed that in 2013, Heard, who was at the time her boss, overheard her discussing the attack with a friend and “summoned” her to her office and “questioned” her about it.

She was surprised to discover that Heard distorted and used the ordeal in her witness statement. Essentially making it her own.

“She referred directly to a violent rape that occurred to me 26 years ago and she twisted it into her own story and she used it for her own use.”

“I am a sexual violence survivor and that’s very, very serious to take that stance if you are not one,” she continued.

Ms James stated, “When I was 26 years old and travelling around Brazil, I was violently raped by an unknown male at machete point, having been woken by the perpetrator while sleeping alone in my dwelling.”

“This attack went on for five to six hours and I narrowly escaped with my life. This tortuous experience of such extreme sexual violence has haunted me ever since.”

She said that it was only after obtaining court records linked to the libel trial late last month that she realized her former employer had “stolen” her sexual assault experience.

“As I perused the documents, much to my utter shock and dismay, I discovered that Ms Heard had in fact stolen my sexual violence conversation with her and twisted it into her own story to benefit herself,” Ms James said.

“This of course caused me extreme distress and outrage that she would dare to attempt to use the mostly harrowing experience of my life as her own narrative.”

Heard’s ex-husband Johnny Depp, 57, is suing the Sun’s publisher, News Group Newspapers (NGN), and its executive editor Dan Wootton over a story that branded Depp a “wife beater” and alluded to “overwhelming evidence” that he had assaulted Heard.

Depp has categorically denied ever hitting Heard, claiming that his “sociopathic” ex-wife was the one who was aggressive in their marriage.

Heard is expected to testify in the lawsuit later this week. Between 2013 and 2016, Heard, 34, has made 14 claims of assault against Depp, 57, in locations including his own island in the Bahamas, a leased property in Australia, and a private plane. He refutes all of them.

Depp and Heard provide completely opposite versions of their tumultuous relationship, which began after they met on the filming of the 2011 comedy The Rum Diary. In February 2015, they married in Los Angeles. The next year, Heard filed for divorce, which was finalized in 2017.

Ms James is also set to testify in an impending defamation action in Virginia between Depp and Heard over an op-ed published by the actress in The Washington Post about being a public survivor of abuse.
