Megan Expresses Displeasure at Kate and William’s Handling of Racist Rumors

Lady Susan Hussey, a previously unknown figure outside the royal community, found herself at the center of controversy prior to November 30, 2022.

Attending a banquet hosted by Queen Camilla at the Palace for Victims of s**ual Assault, Hussey engaged in conversation with Ngozi Fulani, a 61-year-old African domestic violence activist.

According to Fulani, Hussey repeatedly probed her about her origins, asking questions like “Where are the origins of your people?”

and “When did you initially get here?”

Fulani took to Twitter the next morning at 7:25 am to share her account of the encounter, sparking outrage across the globe.

She accused Hussey of racist behavior, a claim that gained unexpected attention considering Hussey’s godson is Prince William, who swiftly responded, stating, “Racism has no place in our society.”

Just over five hours later, at 12:32 pm, Buckingham Palace issued a statement condemning the allegations made against Hussey as disrespectful and unfortunate.

They also announced that Hussey, although unnamed, would be stepping down from her position.

The swift response from the Palace highlighted their struggle with addressing racial issues.

While Hussey’s removal may have temporarily calmed the storm, it did not resolve the underlying problem.

Meghan had previously expressed her unhappiness during her time as a working royal, shedding light on the royal family’s issues with race.

Buckingham Palace faced two significant challenges in March 2021.

The first was an article published in The Times, which alleged bullying by the Duchess of Sussex in 2018.

Both the Sussexes and Buckingham Palace were approached for comment before the article’s release.

The Sussexes vehemently denied the claims, labeling them as a smear campaign, while the Palace remained silent.

After the article’s publication, the Palace expressed concern and announced an investigation by their HR team.

However, the findings of this investigation were never disclosed, leading many to believe that the aim was to preserve harmony between Harry and Meghan.

The second challenge for the Palace in March 2021 was the Oprah Winfrey interview with Harry and Meghan.

The most hurtful allegation made during the interview involved comments about the skin tone of Harry and Meghan’s unborn child, which deeply affected many individuals.

Senior officials spent hours deliberating their response after watching the interview.

The interview aired in the US on March 7th and was scheduled to air in the UK the following day.

Despite completing a draft statement by 2 pm on Monday, the Palace chose not to release it, much to the frustration of reporters.

An insider claimed that the late Queen had insisted on watching the program first, delaying the official response.

During this time, William and Kate, known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, sat together with their staff, discussing how to address the accusations made by the Sussexes.

The now-famous phrase, “some recollections may vary,” was not initially part of their drafted statement but was later added.

While William and Kate wanted to avoid engaging in a back-and-forth with Harry and Meghan, they were clear about their stance.

They believed it was crucial to reject many of the claims made by the institution.

Kate, in particular, emphasized the importance of including this statement to ensure that history would evaluate the allegations accurately.

After receiving approval for the toughened-up draft, Buckingham Palace released a final statement on Tuesday, just before 5:30 pm.

The statement expressed the family’s heartbreak over the difficulties faced by Harry and Meghan in recent years, especially concerning issues of race.

It acknowledged that different accounts existed but promised to address them privately.

The statement also referred to Harry, Meghan, and Archie informally and warmly, deviating from their formal titles.

A few days later, Prince William directly addressed the racism allegations during a television interview, stating, “We are very much not a racist family.”

The behind-the-scenes handling of rumors regarding Meghan and racism by Kate and William has sparked debate and discussion.
