The Rift between Prince Charles And Prince Andrew

For years, Prince Charles and Prince Andrew have had a tense relationship, never being overly friendly to one another. The two brothers reportedly held a “crisis lunch” in Sandringham, during which Charles read Andrew the “riot act.”

Russell Myers, the royal editor for the Daily Mirror, was interviewed on Ann Gripper’s podcast “Pod Save The Queen,” where he discussed the princes’ feud.

He claimed, “(Charles) obviously rushed straight to Sandringham to see his father, to seek his counsel on this crisis that is still ongoing. William had done an investiture and went to go see the Queen, then William and Charles no doubt came together to discuss what had been said by the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh.”

He continued, “And now, it appears, Charles summoned Andrew to Sandringham. They have had this ‘showdown’ that was widely reported (to be coming) the week before last when Charles was still away on his tour. Some of the aides were frantically suggesting that that wasn’t going to happen. And, lo and behold, it has happened, as we were rightly saying.”

Prince Andrew has always had a strained relationship with Prince Charles, and he is also distanced from his other siblings. In a recent interview with Piers Morgan, former butler to Princess Diana, Paul Burrell, stated that Prince Andrew prefers to be alone and doesn’t regularly “mix” with his other royal brothers.

In 2012, it was claimed that Prince Charles intended to trim down the monarchy by eliminating minor royals. This did not sit well with Prince Andrew, and the two have had a difficult relationship ever since. Andrew was absent from a celebration held for Charles to mark the 50th anniversary of his investiture as Prince of Wales in March.

It was “a naked display of hostility” between the brothers, according to a source who spoke to The Daily Beast. But what has caused such animosity in the first place? It’s no secret that Prince Andrew is the Queen’s favorite son, so there might be some envy and emotional strife behind the scenes.
