Queen Elizabeth II has cleared her schedule for the upcoming Jubilee weekend to finally meet her great-granddaughter on her first birthday.

The 96-year-old monarch is expected to miss one of her beloved sporting events, the Epsom Derby, on Saturday, June 4.

This date coincides with the birthday celebration of Prince Harry and Meghan’s daughter, Lilibet, and with the family gathering to commemorate the Queen’s platinum Jubilee weekend, Her Majesty has made sure to prioritize spending time with them.

Prince Harry, 37, and Meghan will be celebrating Lilibet’s first birthday at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, where the Queen will also join them.

The couple, accompanied by their two children, Archie and Lilibet, have planned a four-day stay at the residence to mark the platinum Jubilee.

However, due to episodic mobility issues over the past six months, the Queen, who now relies on a walking stick, is expected to feel fatigued during the event.

Therefore, her aides are making efforts to keep her schedule to a minimum in the coming week.

Sources close to the Queen reveal that it is highly unlikely she will be able to attend the Epsom Derby, especially after all three of her horses withdrew from the race.

Nevertheless, she intends to participate in Thursday’s Trooping the Colour official salute, where she will make two appearances on the balcony at Buckingham Palace.

During this event, she will observe the flypast and receive a salute from returning guardsmen.

On Friday, Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and Prince Andrew, 62, plan to attend the Thanksgiving service at St Paul’s Cathedral, which the Queen hopes to attend as well.

Before the pandemic, the Queen had only missed the Derby twice, once during a state visit to Sweden in 1956 and again on the 48th anniversary of D-Day in France in 1984.

In May 2019, she met Harry and Meghan’s son, Archie, for the first time at Windsor Castle, and now the two-year-old will also be present for the Jubilee celebrations.

However, palace aides are concerned that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex might turn the weekend into a media spectacle.

Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield warned that although the couple has promised to keep a low profile during the Jubilee, leaks could occur in the following weeks.

While the Queen is looking forward to seeing Lilibet and Archie, she is not eager for the drama that Harry and Meghan often bring.

To ensure that Her Majesty’s celebrations remain the focus, Harry and Meghan have informed the Queen that they will only participate in official engagements and avoid unscheduled visits that could overshadow her milestone event.

Royal historian and author Hugo Vickers supports this approach, stating that fewer distractions would be better for the occasion.

Behind the palace walls, nerves are once again unsettled as the House of Windsor prepares to welcome the former royals back into the fold.

It has been announced that if Harry and Meghan attend Trooping the Colour on Thursday, they, along with the Duke of York, will not appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony since they are no longer working members of the royal family.

The palace, however, lacks knowledge of the Sussexes’ unofficial plans, and there is reportedly concern over the possibility of a Netflix film crew being present without official accreditation.

As the Queen’s landmark event approaches, the Sussex bombshell continues to cause headaches within the palace.

Camilla Tominey provides an insider’s perspective on the mounting challenges faced by the House of Windsor.
