Princess Diana’s Unequal Love for her Sons: Insights from Palace Staff
Princes William and Harry have always expressed their deep love and admiration for their late mother, Princess Diana.
While many acknowledged her as a devoted and caring mother, some witnesses reveal that she may have favored her youngest son, Harry, over her firstborn, William.
Darren McGrady, the former royal chef who spent considerable time at Kensington Palace, sheds light on this aspect of Diana’s parenting.
According to McGrady, both Prince Harry and his mother shared similar rebellious natures, often defying rules and conventions.
On the other hand, William was known for his studiousness and willingness to find compromises, qualities that were highly valued for his future role as king.

As a result, the senior members of the royal family tended to pay more attention to the heir, with the queen mother openly favoring William and treating Harry coldly.
Diana was not pleased with this dynamic and sought to compensate for the neglect by showering Harry with her affection.
She made efforts to create a sense of normalcy in their home life, even suggesting that the palace staff address her sons by their first names instead of their official titles.
This was an attempt to bridge the gap between the two brothers and provide Harry with the attention he craved.
However, being cast in the role of the spare heir was not easy for Harry.
In his memoir, he openly shares his struggle with this position.
Like his mother, he lacked focus and perseverance in his studies, which further set him apart from William.
Despite these challenges, Harry remembers his childhood as a time filled with laughter, happiness, and adventure, all thanks to Diana’s efforts to create a loving environment.
Interestingly, Harry admits that after his mother’s tragic death, he seemed to have blocked many memories of her, leaving only a few lingering in his mind.
