Princess Anne Finds Comfort in Countess of Wessex as Royal Family Pays Respects to Queen Elizabeth II
The Countess of Wessex, Sophie, was seen offering support to Princess Anne as the royal family gathered to witness the arrival of Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin in Edinburgh.
The Queen’s remains were brought to the Palace of Hollerood house from Balmoral, where she will lie in rest overnight.
Sophie, the wife of Prince Edward, placed her hand on the Princess Royal’s back as a gesture of comfort during this solemn moment.
Accompanied by their spouses, the Queen’s children – Princess Royal and Vice-Admiral Sir Tim Lawrence, Duke of York, and the Earl and Countess of Wessex – observed the soldiers from the Royal Regiment of Scotland carrying the coffin into the palace.
Despite their grief, the royal women curtsied and the men bowed their heads, showing deference to the monarch.

Tonight, the Queen will stay at the palace before being moved to St Giles Cathedral tomorrow afternoon.
Earlier today, a large crowd had gathered to witness the midday proclamation of King Charles as the new head of state.

Alongside other members of the royal family, they paid their respects to Her Majesty before her final journey.
Meanwhile, in Scotland, thousands of mourners lined the route of the coffin procession, demonstrating their deep admiration for the Queen.
The silent and somber atmosphere reflected the profound loss felt by the nation.
Princess Anne, the Queen’s only daughter, was chosen by her mother to accompany the funeral cortege on the six-hour journey.
With a forlorn expression, she remained composed as she followed the hearse in a royal Bentley, accompanied by her husband, Vice-Admiral Sir Timothy Lawrence.
The Queen’s meticulous funeral arrangements left nothing to chance, and it is likely that she personally requested her daughter’s presence at the Palace of Hollerud House.
Tomorrow, Princess Anne will travel with her mother’s coffin to London, where it will leave Scotland by air.
Known for her tireless dedication, Princess Anne is regarded as one of the hardest-working members of the royal family, having completed over 20,000 engagements.
Her commitment to duty and service is evident as she fulfills her role in honoring her mother’s legacy.
In the midst of these somber events, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have chosen to remain in the UK ahead of the Queen’s funeral.
They will also stay for an additional seven days during the period of royal mourning.
Their children, Archie and Lilibet, are reportedly staying in their home in Montecito, California, under the care of their carers and Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland.
Prince Harry flew to Scotland alone, arriving too late to bid farewell to his beloved grandmother.
Only King Charles and Princess Anne were able to be present in time to pay their respects.
Earlier this week, Harry and Meghan joined Prince William and Kate Middleton to view the floral tributes left outside the gates of Windsor Castle in honor of the Queen.
The couples took the opportunity to interact with members of the crowd, who expressed their condolences to the grieving royals.
Following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, Buckingham Palace confirmed that a period of royal mourning will be observed.
This mourning period, as requested by King Charles, will extend from now until seven days after the Queen’s funeral.
