Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly considering a major rebranding effort that could include a new last name.
The couple is said to be contemplating dropping the Mountbatten-Windsor surname in favor of Spencer, Princess Diana’s maiden name.
This unexpected move has raised eyebrows and sparked controversy, as it would be seen by many as disrespectful to Prince Philip, who took on the Mountbatten name in 1947 when he became a British citizen.
The royal family name was changed from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Winsor in 1917 due to anti-German sentiment.
