Prince Charles and Camilla ‘disable’ Twitter comments after being trolled by fans of ‘The Crown’

After being harassed by Princess Diana fans watching “The Crown,” Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall deactivated their Twitter replies.

Camilla’s current charitable work with the homeless organization Emmaus UK is highlighted in their most recent Twitter postings.

Only individuals that the Clarence House account mentions or follows can respond to their latest tweets, according to observant followers. The explanation, it seems, has something to do with previous comments from Twitter users who are upset with Camilla and Charles for their perceived abuse of the late Princess Diana, Prince Charles’ former wife. Though Diana died in a car accident in 1997, her story and the royal family’s problems have resurfaced as a result of the newly released season four of Netflix’s The Crown.

The new tweet format is distinguished by a notice that displays immediately underneath it and says, “People @ClarenceHouse follows or mentioned can reply”

As previously noted by Insider’s Samantha Grindell, royal fans have been commenting on Charles and Camilla’s postings in reaction to the fourth season of “The Crown,” which premiered on Netflix earlier this month. The most recent episodes of the program center on the love triangle between Charles, Camilla, and Princess Diana.

While the program prides itself on adhering to facts (for the most part), the reality that it is documenting Charles’ adultery, coupled with the fact that Princess Diana is almost universally adored, is causing some heated reactions. A short scan of the comments reveals that many fans obviously think that everything on the program is 100 percent true, despite the fact that the show never claims to be 100 percent accurate in its depiction of Charles and Camilla’s relationship and alleged affair. The series shows that the clandestine affair occurred throughout Charles’s entire relationship with Diana. According to the Daily Mail, Charles and Camilla’s romance did not exist when he was married, and their relationship began in 1986, when his marriage to Diana became difficult, as he acknowledged in a TV documentary.

In recent weeks, pro-Diana comments have flooded Twitter, with many professing their love for the Princess of Hearts – and, by extension, disdain for Charles and Camilla.

Camilla was viciously abused on Instagram and Twitter for her portrayal in Netflix’s The Crown.

One furious troll tweeted: “The true princess of wales, always Diana, Camilla, the eternal lover. The greatness of Diana will be eternal, no one will be able to take her place. Charles of England will never be King and neither deserves it. Diana Princess of Wales will live forever.”

A recent picture of Camilla, which was shared alongside her to express support for the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition, drew a rush of pro-Diana comments, with many penning the royal’s name with a love emoji.

One user said: “Almost everything in The Crown is true. And there is even more that hasn’t been covered. How they isolated Diana, how they laughed at her, made her feel crazy, Camilla playing hostess in Diana’s home.”

Though the real Charles claims his adulterous romance with Camilla began years into his marriage with Diana, Camilla and Charles remain intimately engaged throughout the marriage in the show. Charles and Diana divorced in 1996.

Hugo Vickers, a royal historian and author of “The Crown Dissected” told Insider’s Darcy Schild that an affair between Charles and Camilla during the early years of his marriage to Diana is extremely improbable.

“Apparently, Prince Charles saw Camilla once between the engagement and marriage, which was to politely hand over this little gift in person. That’s what we are told,” Vickers said, referring to an engraved bracelet he gave her as a parting gift. “To my understanding of the relationship, after that, he didn’t see Camilla until 1986.”

“This is drama and entertainment for commercial ends. Being made with no regard to the actual people involved who are having their lives hijacked and exploited,” a source told the Mail Online.

According to Elle, when asked whether he had stayed loyal during his marriage, the prince said, “Yes … Until it became irretrievably broken down, us both having tried.”
